Too many 'Joliet Non Compliant File/Folder Name' messages

I tried to do a backup, but I get the above error msg (ok, i'ts preceded by "Arrrrgggh!").  ImgBurn then says "Operation Aborted", presumably because of this warning.

I can see what the incompatible file names are; I guess what I'd like to do is to create a non-Joliet compatible DVD.  I know how to turn off logging of non-compliant names in the Settings dialog, and I guess that will prevent the above warning; and it looks like I can turn off actual Joliet  compatibility in the Options tab; but what are the implications of this?  In the event of a hard disk crash down the road, will I be able to restore my files from the DVD?

It would help if we could see the error and problem files in the log.

I'm assuming it's just a file name length thing?

Are you using UDF on the disc? You could just have UDF enabled and go from there.

I guess so, although the warning messages are not explicit:

---------

23:22:41 Joliet File: '\Computational Linguistics\Syntax\LKBData\esslli2k\grammars\grammar9\script' -> 'script.' (OS Path: F:\Computational Linguistics\Syntax\LKBData\esslli2k\grammars\grammar9\script)

---------

I'm also worried because there are a number of these warning msgs that seem to be basically the same--they just contain a different digit in the last subdir (grammar7, grammar8, grammar9 in the above example, etc.), and it looks like they're all getting renamed to the same thing: 'script'.  Unless I'm misunderstanding the warning, it sounds like these will all get shortened to the same filename, which would result in losing all but one.

Also, is there a way to tell ImgBurn to exclude certain subdirectories of directories you want to include?  E.g. I want to exclude

\email\TBird\LocalFiles\Inbox.sbd\Trash.sbd\

and everything under it.

On the hard drive, or the DVD?
