I guess the clump of pif around the middle are where your issue lies. The drive hasn't done a very good job of burning the discs.

I have no personal experience of the 'F' version of that drive. It could be that it just can't overburn DVD+DL media like previous revisions could or perhaps the quality of your MKM-003-00 discs isn't what it should be. Check on the packaging and see where it says they were made.

Posted

I read through the drive information on the forum.  it is bit overwhelming for me to interpret.  Are there drives that are recommended or much more reliable that I should look at purchasing?

Posted

To be honest, I'd have expected yours to work just fine. Most previous LiteOn models have.

I wonder if it's just an issue with your discs? Did you check the packaging to see where they were made?

Failing that, get an Optiarc 5280S-CB-Plus / Robot drive. They're normally available on Amazon.

Yes, different drive.  New disks made in UAE.

At least that one verified ok, but the scan is still bad.

Not sure why it's bad over quite an area around the layer break position. You can't even really just put that down to the fact you're over burning.

Perhaps try another one having turned off 'force hypertuning'. If that's the same, do another one with force hypertuning enabled and online hypertuning enabled too.

It took a while but I finally purchased an Optiarc drive as you suggested.  Now I am getting another error.  I saw this error in another thread and took the advice of switching out the USB cable but I get the same error.  Can you kindly take a look?

Thanks!

Yeah, usually the semaphore timeout error on USB drives is caused by a conflict between the ATA to USB bridge in the enclosure and your motherboard.  Generally, the only fix is to change motherboards or enclosures.  And it's significantly easier and cheaper to change enclosures.  Plus, you've no idea if a replacement mobo won't do the same thing when swapped in.  So, it's easier to swap out enclosures than entire mobos.

However, sometimes, you can get a fix by trying a different port or USB cable.  It's rare, but it sometimes works.  :)

Although, my experience and from past posts has been that device removals don't generally occur after closing the track.  Usually, the semaphore time out error will occur trying to write the first 32 sectors?  In other words, right at the start of the burn.
