I have ruined over a dozen dual layer DVDs with versions 2.5.5.0, 2.5.7.0 and 2.5.8.0. I have gone back to version 2.4.2.0 and everything works.

I video edit, encode and write DVDs on a Windows 10 desktop with a PLDS DVD-RW DH16ASCH drive. Then I always get a system hang reading the dual layer subject disk on my Windows 7 home entertainment center with a Matshita BD-RE UJ-225S ATA device.

When I write on my desktop either from a single ISO file or a directory of video files with DVD Flick, all the recent versions of ImgBurn write dual layer DVDs that always fail after a few minutes of use on my entertainment center. These ImgBurn versions write perfectly good single layer DVDs from DVD Flick, but I write dual layer more often. I have tried both writing dual layer DVDs with both EZ Mode Picker–Write and Build choosing the best recommended layer split and second choices.

I have checked my settings and they appear to be the same at all times for all ImgBurn versions. My entertainment center plays all DVDs perfectly whether single layer, dual layer or Bluray except the dual layer DVDs written on my desktop with the three versions of ImgBurn. These dual layer disks that hang on my entertainment center can be played properly on my desktop.

I also always get the same bad result when I am copying a good dual layer DVD on the desktop and am trying to play it on the entertainment center.

Post the logs of you burning and verifying DL media with each version please. (Oldest and current)

The current version must have been used for burning millions of DL discs around the world by now. If there was really a problem (I know there isn't), it would have come up long before now.

It would also help if you tried Read mode on the discs in your entertainment drive so we can see the errors being reported.

The logs when I am Building between different versions on the desktop or using EZmode “Write Image to Disk” between different versions of ImgBurn are each equal for each method, but different, of course, when I compare between methods.

I know my anti-virus, Webroot SecureAnywhere, disables Open Candy. This may be why the earlier version works.

That just shows the disc is unreadable. Not all that surprising for Ritek DL media, that's why everyone recommends Verbatim MKM-003-00 double layer media.

This is nothing to do with OpenCandy. The program doesn't know or care what you've done with it as the plugin is only used by the installation wizard.

Yeah, as LUK said, I'd first target replacing the Ritek DVD+R DL media with Verbatim DataLife Plus MKM DVD+R DL.  I had 5 Ritek DVD+R DL's as a test and though they completed write and verify, 3 of them were unreadable a few years later.

Done! Verbatim user now. Thank you very much. I did recently change to Ritek from Philips +R DL, but for a few more pennies I would prefer the best - Verbatim. I'm sure you are correct about my problem.

Be sure you don't buy the Verbatim DVD+R DL's you find in a brick and mortar store.  They will be CMC Magnetics.  CMC is the worst manufacturer of optical discs out there.  Probably half of the problems people report here with burns are caused by CMC media.  You'll want the DataLife Plus brand.  Unfortunately, you can only find them online.  I get them from Amazon.com in the US.
