Nagi Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Does ImgBurn support to write to HD DVD-RW?I tried to write files into a blank HD DVD-RW medium (15GB), but error occurred.It said "Medium not formatted."Next I burnt files onto it by "Toshiba Disc Creator" on Qosmio G40 and succeeded.Then I tried to burn files by ImgBurn again.First it started erasing, but then the same error occurred. I changed "Write Mode" to "HD DVD", or "Write Type" to DAO/SAO, TAO, or Incremental, but all failed.See the error dialog and logs below. failed HD DVD-RW.log
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 I don't recall having ever seen a HD DVDRW disc before, and as it's a dead format, I don't suppose I will again. Your drive seems to think the disc needs formatting - as it's the one rejecting the write commands and returning that error code / reason. All I can suggest is that you try doing a full erase on the disc and see what happens. I'd be interested to see the disc info from the box on the right when you're in Write mode. Could you copy and paste all of it for me please?
Nagi Posted May 20, 2016 Author Posted May 20, 2016 Thank you for your reply. I don't think erasing makes sense because I used an brand-new:) disc first, as I wrote. But I'll try later. The below is the message on the right when I inserted the HD DVD-RW medium in the write mode. This medium supports AACS. Please feel free to request me additional information. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TOSHIBA DVD/HDW SD-L912A TF30 (ATA)Current Profile: HD DVD-RWDisc Information:Status: EmptyState of Last Session: EmptyErasable: YesFree Sectors: 7,361,600Free Space: 15,076,556,800 bytesFree Time: 1635:56:50 (MM:SS:FF)MID: RITEK-HD-RW-S11Supported Write Speeds: 1xDisc Manufacturing Information:Manufacturer: RITEK CORPORATIONManufactured: TAIWANManufacturer ID: RITEK-HD-RW-S11Physical Format Information (Last Recorded):Book Type: HD DVD-RWPart Version: 3Disc Size: 120 mmMaximum Read Rate: Not SpecifiedNumber of Layers: 1Track Path: Parallel Track Path (PTP)Linear Density: 0.153 um/bitTrack Density: 0.40 um/trackFirst Physical Sector of Data Area: 196,608Last Physical Sector of Data Area: 0Last Physical Sector in Layer 0: 0Format Capacities:DT: 0x01 - NB: 7361600 (0x00705440) - TDP: 2048FT: 0x00 - NB: 7361600 (0x00705440) - TDP: 2048FT: 0x10 - NB: 7361600 (0x00705440) - TDP: 32FT: 0x15 - NB: 7361600 (0x00705440) - TDP: 32FT: 0x19 - NB: 7361600 (0x00705440) - TDP: 32Performance (Write Speed):Descriptor 1...-> B0: 0x00, B1: 0x00, B2: 0x00, B3: 0x00-> EL: 7361599 (0x0070543F)-> RS: 4,568 KB/s (1x) - WS: 4,568 KB/s (1x)
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 DVD+RW and BD-RE both need formatting before first use, so it's nothing unusual. In any case, the drive's error message suggests that's what needs to happen
Nagi Posted May 20, 2016 Author Posted May 20, 2016 I full-erased the disc by Menu: Tool->Drive->Erase Disc->Full But it occurred the same error on Write mode and Build mode. Please see attached files, Erase log, DiscInfo after full-erase and Log of Build mode. Should I need to try another type of Erase? 3-1 Erase full.log 3-2-0 DiscInfo after Erase full.txt 3-2-1Build mode.log
Nagi Posted May 20, 2016 Author Posted May 20, 2016 Actually, I succeeded to burn files in Build mode before trying full erase.Here's what I did.1. Format HD DVD-RW by right-clicking the drive icon on Explorer.2. It took 1 or 2 hours but an error was shown. It said "Windows couldn't finish formatting." Then the drive LED kept lighting and I couldn't do anything for the disc. So I restarted PC.3. I tried to burn ISO image in Write mode but it said "The disc needs to be erased". I canceled. (I know it was failed before.)4. I tried to copy a file to the disc by Explorer and it succeeded!! I deleted the file.5. I tried to burn files in Build mode. It succeeded!!Please refer to the attached images and logs.It seems ImgBurn can't do "format". (Creating file system?)And still failed in Write mode (ISO image).Do you have any opinion or idea? 2-2ImgBurn DiscInfo2AfterFormatFailed.txt 2-4ImgBurn DiscInfo3AfterCopyFileAndDelete.txt 2-5build OK HD DVD-RW.log 2-5ImgBurn DiscInfo4AfterBurning.txt
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Windows formatting has left the disc in an 'incomplete' state and I'd say that's why it's now accepting the 'write' commands. There should be no difference between write and build mode as they use the same code to burn. I'd love to get it working properly but HD DVD stuff is so hard to come by these days. Even if I had a drive, I don't know where to get a HD DVDRW disc from.
Nagi Posted June 2, 2016 Author Posted June 2, 2016 I could burn ISO image in Write Mode, too.I'll share what I did in case.4-1. I full-erased by Menu: Tool->Drive->Erase Disc->Full4-2. I double-clicked the drive icon, and then the attached message was shown.It was like the following in English:"Burn a Disc" How do you want to use the disc? [ ] Like a USB flash drive [ ] With a CD/DVD players <--Grayed out. Can't chooseI checked "Like a USB flash drive" and clicked Next.After half an hour or so, "Windows couldn't finished formatting" was shown like before.The drive LED kept lighting and I couldn't eject and do anything else. So I restarted PC again.4-3. I tried to double-click drive icon. The same message "Burn a Disc" shown. I canceled. (It means files can't be written by Explorer. If interested in, try to compare "4-3-0DiscInfo After USB drive.txt" with "2-2ImgBurn DiscInfo2AfterFormatFailed.txt")4-4. I tried to burn ISO image in Write mode. It started writing!!I succeeded burning ISO twice, but failed once.By the way, what I wanted to do was to "Overburn" ISO movie image.As the result, the created disc can't be read by Explorer, etc.I also tried "Truncate" but it couldn't be read, too.I'm satisfied. Thank you!p.s. I can still see a lot of HD DVD-RW media sold in auctions and Internet shops in Japan.But I think an HD DVD-RW drive is rarer to get because only SD-L912A on a few Qosmio or for bulk seems to have come onto the market as HD DVD-RW drive. 4-3-0DiscInfo After USB drive.txt 4-4-1OK Write mode.log 4-4-2DiscInfo Afterwritemode.txt
LIGHTNING UK! Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 As it turns out, I have a drive that can do it already... I just need the media. There's nothing showing up on eBay uk.
Nagi Posted June 7, 2016 Author Posted June 7, 2016 I've searched on the Web and found the situation is quite different between in Japan and in UK. I'm sorry. I checked auctions and stores in Japan, but all don't support overseas shipment though overseas transfer service companies exist. http://www.biccamera.com.e.lj.hp.transer.com/bc/disp/CSfGoodsPage_001.jsp?GOODS_NO=1842598 http://auctions.search.yahoo.co.jp/search?select=01&ei=UTF-8&p=hd+dvd+rw&rkf=1&n=50&auccat=0&price_type=currentprice&min=0&max=1999&f=0x2&mode=0&tab_ex=commerce&slider=0 http://store.shopping.yahoo.co.jp/flashstore/4719303543171.html Hmm...
