bfrqrv Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 Hi, I have many experience with Imgburn and bd-re and bd-r. This week I tested Verbatim bd-re and the result is readable on pc but not in my ps3 and stand-alone players. I never had this problem and I am wondering if it can be some version problem. The discs are 2.1 The first time I used the disc in Imgburn the software was asking me to format the discs and it did a whipe first, after that it did a zeroing. Can someone confirm that version 2.1 can not handle blu-ray video readable on a stand-alone? I copied BDMV to the disc in UDF, thats the thing I always do with succes.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Can you post the log of you burning and verifying the disc please?
dbminter Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Yeah, post a log for further help. I can say that Verbatim BD-RE DL that Verbatim makes itself works on PS3. I've tested it myself.
Ch3vr0n Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Blu-ray specification REQUIRES UDF 2.50. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray Use 2.1 and it's unreadable on ANY Blu-ray player. Ps3 and standalones alike. You're confusing disc version with the UDF file system. 2 completely separate things
bfrqrv Posted November 10, 2016 Author Posted November 10, 2016 Blu-ray specification REQUIRES UDF 2.50. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray Use 2.1 and it's unreadable on ANY Blu-ray player. Ps3 and standalones alike. You're confusing disc version with the UDF file system. 2 completely separate things No I am not confusing anything. Afcours I always burn the discs in UDF 2.5. But I talk about the version 2.1 because thats what the seller advertised. The version 2.1 bd-re is maybe not capable of doing BDMV when I look at Wiki, but then again I am not sure about that when you burn such a disc as udf 2.5 Blu-ray spec. Thanks for listening you all. I post some logs within a hour when I am home, and I hope it will bring some light.
bfrqrv Posted November 10, 2016 Author Posted November 10, 2016 I had some help form home base. I hope the log I show here is the relevant one for you guys. This is what I found in the log when I was burning the Verbatim. For clearness, I do this for more then a decade and I thought I knew all the variables. There must be something wrong with the discs then, because I didnt change any other factor. I hope you see wich factor is responsible for this. dbminter Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Do you have Blu-Ray capable player software on your PC? If so, test that it works in that. If it doesn't work in a PC player, which is far more forgiving, then there's something wrong in the images being made.
bfrqrv Posted November 10, 2016 Author Posted November 10, 2016 Do you have Blu-Ray capable player software on your PC? If so, test that it works in that. If it doesn't work in a PC player, which is far more forgiving, then there's something wrong in the images being made. Yes it does work in all my pc players with powerdvd without a problem.
dbminter Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Then, it must be a setting in your image file. I believe your Disc ID is the same as the Verbatim made Verbatim BD-RE DL I used in my test. My PS3 played it fine. However, my PS3 is an older, fat model. Depending on your model, maybe the laser is different enough that it doesn't like your Disc ID anymore. Now, one thing to take into account, you seemed to create an image from a folder's contents? My test was an image made from a read of a disc. Plus, I believe it's been said elsewhere on this forum that 3D Blu-Ray's don't work if you create a disc from a Blu-Ray folder. You must read in the disc 1:1 and burn that image. So, maybe it just doesn't work to import Blu-Ray folders? Can't say, never tried it.
dbminter Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I performed a test. I made a Blu-Ray movie and burned it to a Verbatim BD-RE DL to test in my PS3. I copied over a Blu-Ray disc's contents to HD and then built an image file from them. I burned that image file and it played on my PS3. I didn't watch it, just enough to see that the PS3 detected a playable Blu-Ray and played all the contents before loading the main menu. MID: VERBAT-IM1-000, which is the same Disc ID as the discs you used. A few caveats. The Blu-Ray I used was not copy protected. I don't know the circumstances of your Blu-Ray folder contents. My Blu-Ray was a fan made anniversary release of a TV show not available on Blu-Ray. I simply copied over the 2 folders in the root directory to a temporary directory on HD. I then just dragged and dropped the 2 folders into a Build job in ImgBurn. I let ImgBurn do any necessary changes it needed for Blu-Ray movie discs. My disc was a single layer disc, but I burned it to a BD-RE DL. Even though the 2nd layer was not burned to, it still shouldn't have mattered. As long as the PS3 can read the disc as a single layer movie, it should work with a double layer. And I have tested double layer Blu-Ray movie images before with my PS3 and these discs. However, just because the MID's are the same doesn't mean they're the same discs. I've had Verbatim DVD+R DL's that had the same DID, but the same burner would burn to branded discs of the same DID and write speed max but NOT to DVD+R DL's of the same DID and write speed max that were inkjet printable discs. Options: MODE1/2048 UDF 2.60 So, I'd make sure you have the right options set in your build job first. Then, it could be your burner. It may not write correctly to those MID's for your PS3. If your PS3 is a slim model, that may be the problem. Slim model PS2's were junk. I have one and it doesn't play DVD's right. Plays them back with skips. Fat models of all Playstations were better. The PS1, PS2, and PS3 all were good as fat models, but terrible as slim models.
bfrqrv Posted November 11, 2016 Author Posted November 11, 2016 Thanks. I have made hundreds of discs so it must be something else then all my hardware. I have 3 hardware players and they all not read the creation. Maybe it's because of the BDMV. I read at Wiki that BDMV is not supported on version 2.1 discs BD-RE, but it is supported on BD-R. Look at the versions here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc_recordable When you read that it seams that version 2.1 BD-RE cannot handle BDMV folders. I drag and drop BDMV folders in the BUILD from IMGBURN. Maybe an ISO file will work. Can someone confirm this 2.1 issue after you read the Wiki?
dbminter Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Well, all I can say is ImgBurn returns this on my Verbatim BD-RE DL I tested that worked: Disc Version: 2 I don't know if ImgBurn or the drive just isn't returning the entire version string or if there is such a thing as just version 2.0.
bfrqrv Posted November 12, 2016 Author Posted November 12, 2016 I have news about the subject! I bought 3 of those Verbatim BD-RE discs. Like I told you, the first one gave troubles. I now tested the same movie on the second disc but I prepared the disc (format) with NERO this time and it all works. So my guess is that IMGBURN somehow formatted the disc in a strange way. The first time with the first disc IMGBURN was formatting, and after that he was zeroing the disc. It took hours for both actions to complete. I think there is the issue somewhere. Are there different format parameters to configure in IMGBURN with BD-RE?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Only to enable / disable 'spare areas'. Compare the disc info between the one ImgBurn formatted and the one Nero formatted. Copy and paste both so we can see please.

LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Other than ImgBurn's one having been fully certified by the drive (that's what takes the time... well, half of it), they look the same to me.
bfrqrv Posted November 12, 2016 Author Posted November 12, 2016 SOLVED! I now reformatted the same disc (nr.1) with NERO, at least I did a full delete on it, and now this disc is usable whatever I do. So IMGBURN had done something in the very beginning with the disc that broke the compatibility with stand-alone players. Its sounds crazy, and I sure want to know what the technical explanaition is. Now I know how to use these Verbatim's BD-RE discs, I try once more to prepare my 3th disc with IMGBURN again, but then with different options checked. I will uncheck all of the three "prefer format" options in the settings, and give IMGBURN my new 3th disc.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Do not touch the 'spare areas' one, that's not the issue here as Nero's didn't format with spare areas (defect management) enabled. You may find it was just fluke. The 'full certification' bit just instructs the drive to actually test/check the disc as it formats it. The 'properly formatted' one makes ImgBurn wait until the drive says it's totally finished with the format process and then writes zeroes to each sector so the disc really does come out empty.
bfrqrv Posted November 13, 2016 Author Posted November 13, 2016 (edited) News about the 3th new disc. I unchecked all the three format options and did a burn. IMGBURN told me to format, and he did in a few seconds this time. I know its logical because of the unchecked options. The disc is good!! So I guess its solved now, I got three good discs now. It is weird why the first disc did not proper format tho. I wish I had a fourth disc to simulate it again. Edited November 13, 2016 by bfrqrv
