unknownshopper Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 Hi there, I have random verify fails with the DVD+R Verbatim media only. Verbatim DVD+R DL and Verbatim CD-R both burn and verify okay. But Verbatim DVD+R Made in Taiwan are a mess, I've used them for a long time, had some issues with a few discs from time to time but now the problem is with the 4 last spindles i bought from 2 different sellers on amazon. I have all of them opened at the moment and I randomly pick a disc in one of them. All discs burn fine but some of them fails at the verification, others don't, the problem is with each spindle but the fails are more frequent with some spindles than others. I could temporarily fix the problem by ticking perform OCR in the settings but now the problem is back. I tried 8 discs in safe mode and they all burnt and verified okay but after that the problem was back and the driver made a strange clicking sound when I tried to continue the verify operation before aborting. Strangely, discs below a 3 GB capacity burn fine. Verify always fails after 90% of the operation is completed and the resulting discs are either unplayable with my b-d and dvd standalone players or they freeze on the vob where IMGburn failed to read sectors. When I don't verify a disc it's either playable or unplayable on the standalone players, that's why verifying them is crucial for me but I don't know which it is, media or system/drive problem? This is the log for an okay burn+verify : I 19:24:21 ImgBurn Version 2.5.8.0 started! LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 See if you can use your drive to perform disc quality scans (at 4x or 8x) in the likes of 'Opti Drive Control' or 'nero cdspeed'. If you can, please grab a screenshot of the results and post it so we can take a look. On the off chance 4x isn't an ideal speed for your drive/firmware/media combo, have you tried the others? You could pick up a new LiteOn DVD writer for
unknownshopper Posted May 24, 2017 Author Posted May 24, 2017 (edited) Thanks for the fast reply, Lightning UK I have ordered a new drive and I should receive it in 10 days max. This one is 2 years old and my estimation is that I have probably burnt more than 6000 dvd+r/dvd+r dl with it so maybe it's just slowly dying and that's the natural explanation. I thought 4x was the best speed to avoid coasters. I'll try 8x or 16x. They're the ones you suggest, I suppose. Disc quality scan for a failed verification Disc quality scan for a successfull verification It doesn't look good... Edited May 24, 2017 by unknownshopper
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 Do try and scan at 4x or 8x. You can see the speed box down the bottom right.
unknownshopper Posted May 25, 2017 Author Posted May 25, 2017 A scan at x4 produced the same result for this disk so I guess it was really rotten despite the successfull verification. I tested 10 other disks with successfull verifications and I always get this : When a verification fails I always get this : I have tried to burn at x6 and x8 and it produces as much coasters as the x4 speed. Since I can't burn below x4 with the DVD+R media, I'll just wait for the new drive. Thanks for your input.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 For whatever reason, that drive just seems to be doing an awful job of burning after ~3.75GB. Weird! Hopefully your new one will behave itself
