bobbob97 Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 (edited) I have been using Imgburn for years. Suddenly my duel layer burns all fail. Single layer burn are fine.I was using a LG WH16NS40 when bad burns started. Now I have switched to a Pioneer BDR-211UBK and still have the same issue. Disks are not bad as they work when burning with other software's. I have tried custom layer break numbers reported on forums and OPC is unchecked. I tried disc's at 2x 4x 6x and 8 to no avail. I have even tried to use older versions of imgburn hoping some new setting is the issue.....Help ; //****************************************\\; ImgBurn Version 2.4.4.0 - Log; Wednesday, 24 May 2017, 14:44:47; \\****************************************//;;I 14:41:19 ImgBurn Version 2.4.4.0 started!I 14:41:19 Microsoft Windows ??? LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 Use the current version and try the other write speeds. There's no magical setting that would fix your issue. It should just work.
dbminter Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 I'd look at the Ritek media being the problem. Ritek DVD+R DL was usually problematic, so I don't see why BD-R DL wouldn't be from Ritek, as well.
bobbob97 Posted June 1, 2017 Author Posted June 1, 2017 I now also noticed that the device buffer, very quickly, drops to zero and then quickly fills as the burn is switching between layers. I believe this is where the issue is because when verifying the disk this is where it fails. Right at the layer break. Any suggestions as how to prevent the device buffer from flushing out?
dbminter Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 I think most drives behave this way. My experience has been that most drives when they get to the layer change "stop" writing. The buffers will empty and then writing resumes. I'm guessing the laser has to change power to access the 2nd layer. I think Optiarc and LiteOn drives might have kept on writing at the layer change, but I think my experience has been that most of my drives "stop" writing at the layer change.
dbminter Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 Oh, wait. Never mind. I was remembering wrong. The write speeds might drop to 0, but the buffers shouldn't, I don't think.

dbminter Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 Wait, is it even possible to set up an optical drive in a RAID array? I thought RAID was only for hard drives. What would be the benefit of a RAID set up for optical drives? Plus, we'll need a full log for this apparently BD-R DL (?) to get the error codes. If they're same or not.
bobbob97 Posted June 18, 2017 Author Posted June 18, 2017 Here is a new log file with the same issue. I have used a LG WH16NS40 burner and now a Pioneer BDR-211UBK burner. Both at different burn speeds. This is after I reinstalled windows 10 and with very minimal software loaded into the system. First disk failed the verify. I really don't understand as I have used IMGBURN for years. dbminter Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 I think at this point you may want to try an external enclosure for these internal drives, connected by USB. You've tried 2 different burners, with different media, and both internal burners return the same error. This may be indicative of an SATA issue, either with the cable or the motherboard connection. Or there's some kind of Windows configuration issue. If you take these drives and connect them by USB and still get the same error, then the culprit is most likely some kind of Windows configuration error. Now, the drives can't necessarily be ruled out. I've never used BD-R DL, so I can't say how well a Pioneer might handle them. I know my LG BD burner doesn't write to BD-RE DL properly, even though they're Verbatims. They fail Verify at the layer change more often than succeed, so I say LG BD burners are just terrible at writing DL BD media. My Pioneer does write to BD-RE DL correctly, but I've never used it write BD-R DL before. So, I can't say how well it writes those. And it could be the Pioneer is simply not as good a quality as it used to be. I've had 4 of them over 3 years and the quality has gradually declined on the same model. The last one I got was borked right out of the box, failing to write properly to Verbatim BD-R that my 2nd oldest version of the same unit still wrote to.
bobbob97 Posted August 13, 2017 Author Posted August 13, 2017 Ok....So I built a new System Ryzen 7 1800x, 32gig memory, Samsung m.2 hard drive, ASUS MOB, HGST storage drive. Using Imgburn I made 11 BLDL coasters trying different settings! Finally I read someone who suggested trying to burn in safe mode. Using RIDATA disc's burned 3 disc's in "Burn Files / Folders to Disc" Mode no problems with burning or playing! Why is this working in Safe Mode and not in normal boot mode? What can I look for to fix this issue? LIGHTNING UK! Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 There's no reason why safe mode should make your drive able to burn / read discs better than normal mode. Once the data hits the drive's cache, everything is handled internally. You wouldn't expect your hdd to perform differently (ignoring any speed differences) between safe mode and normal mode. Your burner should be no different. Safe mode is useful if you have drivers that are messing things up, that's all. They shouldn't be able to introduce hard read errors or make a difference to burn quality.
