blacklash123 Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 (edited) Bin files are exact copies of a music CD, much like ISO files are for DVDs. If I rip with ImgBurn, is it able to tell me if there were bad sectors or sectors that were jumped/unreadable? What I mean is verifying against the CD doesn't mean much if the CD itself isn't perfect. Will Imgburn alert me of a bad sector in the log? Edited May 31, 2017 by blacklash123
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 If the drive reports an error, ImgBurn will display it to you.
blacklash123 Posted May 31, 2017 Author Posted May 31, 2017 (edited) Ok. Thank you. Edited May 31, 2017 by blacklash123
blacklash123 Posted June 1, 2017 Author Posted June 1, 2017 (edited) When I'm ripping a single uncompressed WAV file with EAC, the log file that comes with the rip says some tracks aren't accurately ripped when compared to others. I tried ripping the whole disc with ImgBurn, but there wasn't any indication of bad sectors or anything wrong. Would my disc be perfect or not? Or maybe Imgburn is letting some of the minor stuff get by and only reports the major issues? Edited June 1, 2017 by blacklash123
LIGHTNING UK! Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 Data sectors have loads of error correction stuff built in, Audio (CDDA) sectors don't. ImgBurn just asks the drive to read the sectors and return what it reads. As I said before, if your drive reports an error, you'll know about it. If it doesn't, you won't. EAC, as a dedicated audio cd ripping tool, goes way beyond that. If you want accurate audio cd rips, stick with EAC. The clue is in the name. That's not to say that the data your drive returns to ImgBurn is useless. I very much doubt you'd be able to tell any difference.
blacklash123 Posted June 1, 2017 Author Posted June 1, 2017 (edited) Thanks for detail. Imgburn is great for burning and does a lot of detailed analysis that is useful to know. What tools do you recommend is the best for DVD/Blu-ray surface scans and file scan? Edited June 1, 2017 by blacklash123
LIGHTNING UK! Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 Do you mean for disc quality / PIPO stuff? All the tools for that are pretty well known. DVDInfoPro, Opti Drive Control, CDSpeed, PlexTools, KProbe etc.
blacklash123 Posted June 1, 2017 Author Posted June 1, 2017 Do you know if VSO Inspector is any good?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 I'm not aware of it having that functionality at all. ImgBurn's Verify mode will tell you if a disc is readable, that's a basic surface scan. What you want is to see the quality of the burn and how readable it is. That's where those other tools come in.
