Vampire_ Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 You locked the topic (http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?/topic/24724-your-download-site-is-contaminated/) so I cannot reply in that thread. While, Mr Jopi would be more correctly categorized as Mr IT-Unprofessional, he is "essentially" correct. You have apparently chosen to use OpenCandy in your installer. It is produced by SweetLabs and was originally created by the developers of DivX. This component has been classified as Malware by just about every anti-virus/malware software on the planet due to its highly undesirable effects. Even if you choose to not install the additionally recommended software, it still silently installs undesirable software. There was a work around for ImgBurn to download the installer, disconnect from the internet, and then install to prevent OpenCandy from downloading and install those components. However, as your installer is now just a wrapper that downloads the actual install, a common practice by developers to insure the latest version is installed, this work-around no longer works. If you search the internet for any various combination of the terms ImgBurn, Symantec, OpenCandy, etc, you will find numerous pages enumerating these issues. As it stands most of your potentials users cannot install ImgBurn because their protection software will, legitimately, block it. Could you please look into and address this issue. I donated several years ago after downloading your software and found myself using it regularly. It really does work very well. However, after a recent re-image at work to fix a borked install from Corporate, I am no longer able to install/use your software. Thanks,
LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 I haven't locked any topics, you just can't reply to it as you're probably new and it isn't yours. Opencandy shut down last year (2016). That said, it still didn't install things unless you'd opted in to installing them or hadn't opted out. My setup download file isn't a wrapper. If you got one that is, you downloaded form an advert pretending to be ImgBurn.
Vampire_ Posted October 4, 2017 Author Posted October 4, 2017 I downloaded the installer from your website and used the direct download instead of a mirror. It looks like a wrapper because it attempts to download something and would not attempt to install when I disconnected from the network. Symantec keeps quarantining it so I can only describe what I think is happening. Bottom line, a lot of people will not be able to install it without disabling their anti-virus/malware protection. And for many of us, it simply is not an option. As much as I liked ImgBurn, I can no longer use it until you resolve this issue.
