MalMensa Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Hi. I have a strangely behaving DVD. When an image is created from it, the image seems to be unmountable. Double clicking under Windows 10 just throws up the attached error: "Capture.JPG"This is a burnt CD from a company we regularly do business with, we have successfully made image files of dozens of their disks. The disk itself can be read just fine, and the imaging process seems to run as expected. I can even open the image in WINRAR, so the data is actually there. Cannot get Windows 10 to mount it though. Tried on several machines.I tried grabbing an old disk that I had imaged long ago, it worked as expected. dbminter Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 What are the contents of this disc? If it's not a bootable disc, i.e. just a disc of some contents that aren't made in any fancy way, you could try just creating a new ISO in ImgBurn Build mode. See if that ISO mounts. Of course, this doesn't solve why Windows won't mount that ISO. But, you could spend the rest of your life trying to debug a Windows issue and get nowhere. It's the nature of the Windows beast. When something goes wrong with an internal Windows function, too often than not, the only solution is to restore Windows from an image where it worked before/reinstall Windows. However, it's probably just a case of a weird ISO that isn't mounting correctly as you said another image does work. Probably something wrong/weird with the source disc that is creating a weird ISO.
MalMensa Posted March 21, 2018 Author Posted March 21, 2018 I doubt it is a problem that would be solved by a Windows reinstall, it is ONLY images created from one disk that are not mountable. Same behavior is observed on several machines. Imgburn has no problems making another copy from the unmountable .ISO file. The contents of the disk seem pretty unremarkable, a couple of sub directories and a few dozen files, mostly video.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 Post the disc info of that disc when you’re in Read mode please.
