BrownTrout Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 I am new to ImgBurn and am trying to write some files to a DVD+RW. When I go to write the files, I get a message saying that the disc needs to be formatted. I select 'Yes' to format and then get an 'I/O Error' straight away. I have tried 2 new discs of the same brand. I have written to a CD-RW successfully. The DVD writer is a Pioneer 111D with the latest firmware. This is the device info from ImgBurn: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-111D 1.29 (SCSI) Current Profile: DVD+RW Disc Information: Status: Empty Erasable: Yes Formatted: No Free Sectors: 2,295,104 Free Space: 4,700,372,992 bytes Free Time: 510:03:29 (MM:SS:FF) Supported Write Speeds: 2.4x, 4x Physical Format Information (ADIP): Disc ID: RICOHJPN-W11-01 Book Type: DVD+RW Part Version: 2 Disc Size: 120mm Maximum Read Rate: Not Specified Number of Layers: 1 Track Path: Parallel Track Path (PTP) Linear Density: 0.267 um/bit Track Density: 0.74 um/track First Physical Sector of Data Area: 196,608 Last Physical Sector of Data Area: 2,491,711 Last Physical Sector in Layer 0: 0 Physical Format Information (Last Recorded): Disc ID: RICOHJPN-W11-01 Book Type: DVD+RW Part Version: 2 Disc Size: 120mm Maximum Read Rate: Not Specified Number of Layers: 1 Track Path: Parallel Track Path (PTP) Linear Density: 0.267 um/bit Track Density: 0.74 um/track First Physical Sector of Data Area: 196,608 Last Physical Sector of Data Area: 2,491,711 Last Physical Sector in Layer 0: 0 Current Format Capacity: Sectors: 2,295,104 Size: 4,700,372,992 bytes Time: 510:03:29 (MM:SS:FF) Maximum Format Capacity: Sectors: 2,295,104 Size: 4,700,372,992 bytes Time: 510:03:29 (MM:SS:FF) Any thoughts? Do I need to format it with other software first?
lfcrule1972 Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=627 Above are some disc tests that boss did with that media - they all look ok, so can you please post a copy of the full ImgBurn log when you next try to use this disc ? That might give us more of a clue.

LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 Your IDE drivers or some Filter driver is blocking the 'Format' command. Fix those and the problem will go away. If you have the drive on an IDE controller that's NOT part of your main motherboard chipset (i.e. a non Intel / Via / nVidia etc) one, move it so it is on the main one. Optical drives don't often work on 3rd party ones.
BrownTrout Posted November 27, 2006 Author Posted November 27, 2006 Thanks for the reply. I think you have pointed me in the right direction. I have just been reading and it seems that there is something quirky with the JMicron JMB36X controller and it detects my Pioneer 111D as SCSI. I have an ASUS P5B Deluxe motherboard. The Pioneer is plugged into the primary IDE on the motherboard and is in CABLE-SELECT mode. I have one SATA HDD. I'll keep investigating...
BrownTrout Posted November 28, 2006 Author Posted November 28, 2006 I removed the JMicron driver as described at http://www.thepatri0t.net/2006/10/14/asus-...blems-solution/ and I can now format and write to the DVD.
spinningwheel Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Great ; Thanks for letting us know how you sorted it out.
