I've found lots of topics that have a similar problem but none of the solutions have worked for me. I think the issue could be the directshow filters. image.png.c23b20eeb9c8cacf58f00951145a7975.png
here are the filters it's using. The WAVs are 16 bit, 44.1kHz, PCM Codec. I hope I have everything correct, if not let me know and I'll try to figure out what I'm missing.

One thing to mention is that I'm using imgburn so that I can mess around with hiding tracks in between others by editing the CUE file. I've got this working perfectly, and the discs burn fine, but they just don't sound even close to listenable unfortunately! Is this known to cause issues? Thanks.

Two things I'd look into.

First, is this incorrect sounding audio on a CD player or on your PC?  If it's on your PC, try playing it in a CD player and see.  If it's in a CD player, try playing it on your PC if you haven't done either yet.

While you're waiting for someone else to chime in, I'd take your WAV's, convert them to FLAC, install madFLAC for ImgBurn, and see if you get better CD results burning FLAC files.  I use something called freac Free Audio Converter.

(writing as I go for log sake)
Yeah they sound good on my PC. This is in a nice Sony ES series CD player, so the only issue could be with imgburn (or how it's configured). I'm also using Taiyo Yuden CDr's and I burn at 16x speed with these discs since they support up to 64x.
Another thing to note is that the discs never verify correctly, there's always an error which I forgot to screenshot. The discs still play though.

Attempt 1:

- Converted WAVs to FLAC using MediaHuman (my fav)
- Just installed madFLAC, CD is burning, using 16x speed.
- Verify Failed, reason: Layouts do not match (whatever that means, probably due to my cue file fuckery)

- Disc didn't even read. However, I suspect this is my bad as I changed the CUE file from previous attempts:
          - I discovered my audio track hiding trick only works if you skip to the tracks, if let play they will play the "hidden" portion with exception of track 1. I tried to circumvent this by making INDEX 01 value equal to the split, but it looks like this messed things up.
                    - for added context, the way to properly hide audio in pregap (for track 1) is to change INDEX 01 00:00:00 to INDEX 00 00:00:00 and then add an additional line with INDEX 01 xx:xx:xx

Attempt 2: (I hope this works as I am running out of non inkjet CDrs. I don't have a CD player that will play RWs)

- Burning disc, using 16x still but edited CUE file to revert back to how it was for successful burns.
- Verify... failed?

-  Well, no matter! The tinny audio is fixed. Thank you very much for the suggestion

- Side note: if anyone knows anything about hiding secrets on CDs and has some suggestions on how to put easter eggs in the middle of an album rather than just at the start, please let me know!

Depends on what you mean by Easter Eggs in the middle of an album.  If you mean bonus tracks and you have 10 FLAC's, just add the extra FLAC after the 5th one.

If you want other kind of Easter Eggs, you'd have to make a Mixed Mode CD.  It plays a standard Audio CD when played in a CD player, but on a PC, there's another data track.  I don't remember if ImgBurn can make Mixed Mode CD's as I haven't made one in like 20 years.

What I mean is in this way: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_albums_with_tracks_hidden_in_the_pregap

It basically means when you press play it starts at the first track (INDEX 01) but if you rewind, which not all CD players can even do, you'll end up in the pregap before the track (INDEX 00). A lot of artists have hidden secrets in this way. I was wondering if it was possible to fill a CD to the brim using this method but on tracks other than the first, but i don't think it its possible sadly, since for tracks outside of the first the CD player will play the pregap. What's odd is that if you skip to the track, it starts on INDEX 01 and you're able to rewind to INDEX 00, which gave me the illusion that the trick worked, but if the CD is just left to play then the tracks aren't really hidden at all.

Another idea I'm toying with is that maybe there's a way I can bury these hidden tracks and make them not playable on a CD player at ALL, and the only way to access them is to rip with EAC or something. That's what I tried to do when I messed up that CD.
