Newbie--Burning ISO and Time to write/verify?

Recommended Posts

I am a novice at IMGBurn, however, I was able to complete an ISO burn this afternoon. But I don' know what typical times are for this type of burn.

I did use the verify function and the total time was about 49 minutes from start to finish. Is this average, below average ect.? The good news the disks works in my DVD-TV setup.

I have read thru some of the posts and can provide the following information.

I looked at the Primary and scondary drives under the device manager.

Primary says DMA

Secondary says device 0=Dma...Ultra DMA Mode 2 (I think this is the CD)

device 1= PIO...PIO (I think this is the DVD) second on 80 cable?

The DVD player writer seem to work extremely fast when I used Nero 7 for regular copy..burns ect. 10 minutes for disk full of Jpegs 3 gb worth however, ProShow suggested that I try IMGBurn with the ISO files.

So do I need to manual change the selection in the drop dow boxes for device 1? Not very technical

on the hardware/devices ect on my end.

I have two writers, cd writer, dvd 16x lite on about a month old.

Verbatim 4.7gb 16x certified media....says its MCC03RG20

Here is a copy of the burn log.

As you can see about 49 minutes?? I don't know what to expect with ISO files, these were from a program

call ProShow Gold 2.6 for creating a slide show of about 600 slides.

Any pointers appreciated..Thanks in advance Bob

BobFlyer, device 1= PIO...PIO (I think this is the DVD) second on 80 cable? This should be on "DMA" or at least "DMA if available". This could be one reason for your slow burns.

Secondly you need to update your firmware for your liteon......... current version your on is HS07 New version HS0D.

Go here to update: www.rpc1.org :)

Thanks for the great tips and suggestions.

First, I followed the suggestions on the DMA vs PIO...My writer was in PIO mode..Corrected via the

uninstall for the drive, rebotted and unit was placed in DMA mode my XP.

Second, I updated the firmware in the Lite-on to the latest..

My ISO file burn time went from a previous 29 minutes to 4.12 minutes for the same ISO file, average write was reported at 13.5.

Again Thanks for the tips

Bob
