What CMC SHOULD stand for!

CMC Magnetics makes the worst discs out there.  I don't know what CMC stands for, but I say it should stand for the following: Crappy Media Company!

I feel like at one point in time, (the very early 2000s), CMC wasn't that bad.

I still have my dad's Imation CD-Rs that are recovery discs for an old state of Windows XP and hold a lot of different software from then. I believe there are 10 of them and all of them are readable. Well over 20 years old and are very discolored. Turned from pale white to a dark/rich gold. They were burned with a standard laptop CD-RW/DVD-ROM slim drive too, QSI if anybody knows that company drive. 

Additionally, they have only been stored in those paper sleeve covers and they're still fine. Just in case though, I made backups of them onto Verbatim Data Life Plus CDs. 

CMC now sucks for real though, the verbatim Life Series now has trouble burning in many drives and I feel their longevity isn't it. Though they are good for overburning like ThaCrip said in his other posts.

Personally I had no issue burning on the BD-R SL discs from MediaRange which is (CMCMAG-BA5-000) and I've burned 66 discs until now from 3 different spindles so according to their known low build quality and drive burning issues, I should have had at least one discs to fail while burning.

None so far.

All there is to do now is verify the discs on yearly basis and see if they start getting dead sectors. Especially if there are visible signs of disc rot.

What CD-Rs and DVD-Rs/DVD+Rs do you suggest?

I have been using Taiyo Yuden CD-Rs and DVD-Rs from when these were manufactured by TY themselves in Japan, and were of very good quality. I also used DVD-Rs, DVD+Rs, and dual layers from Verbatim, the ones by MCC. These are all gone, and are all done by CMC now. I have both CD-Rs, DVD-/+Rs done by CMC and I cannot get a good quality burn, whatever drive I use.

Even though CMC bought up Verbatim, last I purchased, you could still get the Mitsubishi good stuff from Verbatim.  As long as you got the DataLife Plus series.  NOT the Life Series, which is CMC.  However, the DataLife Plus series can generally only be found online from places like Amazon.com.   So, I recommend the DataLife Plus DVD-R and DVD+R DL.  And the DataLife Plus/AZO CD-R from Verbatim.  Last I bought them, the CMC Pro line of DVD-R were also good because they were the higher quality TY.  Even though CMC bought TY, they still apparently produce high quality TY level discs under the CMC Pro line of discs.

I am getting some not-so-nice and also ugly scans for CMC manufactured TY CD-Rs and TY/Verbatim DVD-Rs / DVD+Rs lately, burned with an Optiarc AD5290-PLUS (in a USB enclosure) and by LiteOn's.
