Pioneer is out of the business, so its no longer an option, and LG is crap at making blu ray drives for multi-layer blu ray burning. any alternatives?

i suspect Verbatim will notice the drives they OEM from (LG) will start to make their customers being unsatisfied with the burns and will start complaining, which will force verbatim to demand LG to make their drives higher quality to properly burn discs. (Best case scenario)

or this might be the end of blu ray burning.

Well I own a Verbatim external USB Blu Ray burner and it's actually a Pioneer drive. I'm pretty sure they are still being sold.

I use ASUS's internal BD offering.  I've had one for 1.5 years now and it's still going.  As opposed to the WH16NSx0 models from LG, which I had to replace after about 7 months over the course of about a decade.

Well, I stand corrected. My external USB blu ray burner Verbatim 43889 that I bought in 2023 is a Pioneer drive.

But the drive that I bought several days ago - same Verbatim 43889 BD burner - is actually an LG drive :(

I guess it's ok for single layer BD's, but I wouldn't trust it with double or triple layer Blu ray discs.

Of course, right after I praised the ASUS for going strong for 1.5 years, I had to replace it Sunday night.  :) So, it lasts for about 18 months with rigorous near daily use before it needed replacing.  It developed an issue with its red laser.
