mrfuller8 Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 I was having no issues with dvd decrypter (for ISO burn on D/L) for a long time. However, now I am getting write errors @ exactly 50 % completion every time. I have ruined several disks trying to solve this problem. I found out about IMGBURN and thought I would try it. Unfortunately I get the same exact error. Have I killed my drive by using it "a lot" ? Any ideas?????? Thank You in advance.
cornholio7 Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 can you post a log of a failed burn please

No matter what you are using it for, Verbatim is the ONLY good DL media.
lfcrule1972 Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 I agree with MJ - Ritek DL media is pretty crap as is there single layer stuff these days. Get Verbatim DVD+R DL if you want to burn Dual layer.
mrfuller8 Posted January 2, 2007 Author Posted January 2, 2007 hmmm.... I have been using this same type of disk for a long time (with no issues).
spinningwheel Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Up until 6-8 months ago I was a dedicated Ritek user also. Their quality control has steadily declined and now their media is on the 'junk' list as far as I am concerned. You are, of course, free to use anything you want, but we recommend the use of Verbatim +R DL's here. If you are seeking our opinion as to whatever your problem is, and then don't want to make changes as we suggest, then you pretty well leave us behind and are free to go about figuring out things on your own. Not being a smart-ass here, just stating the way things are. We've made thousands of burns here and speak from a fairly knowlegeable position.
Movie Junkie Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 (edited) hmmm.... I have been using this same type of disk for a long time (with no issues). Just because you have been lucky doesn't mean that the discs are any good. If you do a search here you will find many instances of people having problems with DL media that were corrected by switching to Verbatim discs. I 14:36:49 Writing Layer 1... (LBA: 2077056 - 4092465)W 14:37:17 Failed to Write Sectors 2077376 - 2077407 - Write Error There still could be a problem with your drive but since it did start writing to Layer 1 I believe it is the media. You could try getting another drive but I think the best way to go is to eliminate the media as being the problem. If you continue to have the problem then the drive may be the cause. I 14:12:15 Destination Device: [1:0:0] SONY DVD RW DRU-810A 1.0a There is a firmware update for your drive. It is version 1.0e and it can be downloaded here. You may want to see if that corrects your problem if switching to the Verbatims doesn't. Edited January 2, 2007 by Movie Junkie

mrfuller8 Posted January 2, 2007 Author Posted January 2, 2007 Fair enough. I will definitely try the Verbatim's. I apologize if it sounded like I was asking questions, only to not believe the answers I was given (that was not my intent). I came here b/c you all are the "professionals". Thank You for the advise everyone.
lfcrule1972 Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 No worries - we just try to help where we can, I used to use Ritek media for about 18months when I first got into this. Initially they were great and gave hundreds of trouble free burns that still play back glitch free today. A while ago their quality control went out of the window (as spinner stated) and I started to see crap burns with errors and even the ones that burnt ok initially were then problematic some months later. If you want to try and minimise this frustration it's best to get the best quality you can initially
