okay, so i have been on this site checking out the forums for the past week id say and i have tried everthing it seems, im really hoping that somebody out there can help me with this. I have a Sony DW-G120A DVD burner and i have updated the firmware on it to the latest, i have also bought new media which are the Taiyo Yuden media TYG02 DVD-R media. I was using crappy memorex discs before and i got 1 out of about 20 to actually work, so i decided to change to the Taiyo Yuden's, which worked absolutely perfect for the very first disc, thinking i had fixed my problem until i attempted the second burn of something else, well come to find out, there was the exact same error as before. well i can only hope that somebody out there will tell me what the hell is wrong and why i keep producing coasters... here is the Imgburn log of one of the errors

doing a Google search for that drive reviews showed that only 53% thought it was an excellent drive and there were lots of cons I/O errors ,cant read ,cant write ,you've tried different media from worst to best with the same results I'd RMA the drive and get a new one or abandon it and get something different, as a last resort you could try using + media maybe some Verbatim and even if that bombs out too the discs wont go to waste if you get a different burner. I really think the drive has problems

Well on that note:( that really sucks that i have to get a new drive, well when i do what do all of you guys recommend to be a really good drive without spending a shit ton of money on one, what overall have you guys found to be a really good drive to have? any recommendations would help:) thanks alot!!

Posted (edited)

lots of cheap drives, pioneer 111, or one of the liteon drives.

Plextor drives are still quite dear compared to others, the new benq1670 is not that good IMO.

Dunno what the new NEC/SONY partnership drives are like as i don't have one, don't think i will bother with those though for some reason, I must be basing that on something just don't know what.

I would go with either pioneer 111(as long as your not planning to use it as an external) as a couple of chipset's i have in my usb2 external enclosures don't like my pioneer writers) Or liteon

See what the other users on here think then decide.

I would recommend the Pioneer DVR 111 drive as well, I have this one below which writes to all formats, including RAM

However if you won't really use the RAM write function then the sister model the DVR 111D is also available and cheaper too !

(If you know what you are doing I believe the above drive can be flashed to the RAM version as well)
