dontasciime Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 quite an old drive now, and i remember mine struggled towards the end still works but with Sony not updating past 2.1a it lacks the media codes of all the recent media codes from past 2 years maybe even longer. IF you could get hold of some ritek G04 you may have better luck, you may also find that the Sony will only burn them at 2X instead of 4X. So try and get some 4X media only (avoid 8x above etc)
polopony Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 W 12:28:41 Failed to Write Sectors 2240 - 2271 - Power Calibration Area Error definetly media related you can try to find some media that will work with the drive ,but its a really old drive by todays standards and like D says theres been no new firmware for quite some time for .I have a 510 A I'll throw in my computer and see if it will burn Verbs or Yudens OK will get back with an answer

I inserted it into my DVD player, but the DVD player errors. I placed it in to another DVD on my laptop, and nothing happened. I open the explore window to see if there were files in the DVD, and there was not any. I did not see a Audio_ts to Video_ts directory. Any ideas?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 Make sure you verify the disc as part of the burn process. At least then you'll know that the drive can read what it just wrote. Once we know it can, we'll look at why windows can't see it.
polopony Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 The media is pretty much garbage(RitekF1) thats the problem with your playback .I installed my Sony 510 A and burned a disc at 4x the drives max I used Verbatim -R 16x media see log below it verifyed perfect also. You might think about getting a new drive they're dirt cheap these days The Pioneer 111D is a good drive all the others I dont know theres been so many mergers and takeovers its hard to know who makes what drives, so many are rebadged .Looking for media I found half a spindle of Ritek GO4 the last good Riteks, GO5's ,so so and half aspindle of Taiyo Yuden -R 8x all I need is a drive that does scans I 14:34:13 ImgBurn Version 2.1.0.12 Beta started! dbminter Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 I can definitely relate to Riteks behaving oddly on the 500a. They apparently changed the dye in some way because the 4x's stopped writing at 4x on the drive. All other 4x brands I tested wrote at 4x, but, the Riteks only at 2x. I would recommend what others have and try another brand and see how it goes.
