Artisan Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Have been burning single layer DVD-R's with NEC DVD_RW ND-3520AW drive successfully for a few years without problems. Burn exclusively Verbatims SL and recently have burned DL Verbatim Disc ID: MKM-001-00 (Singapore) with very few problems. Currently trying to burn Verbatim DL Disc ID: MKM-001-00 (stated as USA on SVP site, packaging says from Singapore) without success (4 coasters). On browsing the forum the error is likely to be generated from my burner but wanted to get some advice first before replacing hardware or trying anymore discs. Any help would be much appreciated. Using ImgBurn Version 2.1.0.0 under default conditions and have created iso's using cornholio7's `Creating a double layer ISO on your hard drive using ImgBurn' guide. Log attached for one of my unsuccessful burns. (Closing the disc manually means the disc is recognized in PowerDVD but not in standalone player) ; //****************************************\\ ; ImgBurn Version 2.1.0.0 - Log ; Saturday, 24 February 2007, 13:13:15 ; \\****************************************// ; ; I 11:55:25 ImgBurn Version 2.1.0.0 started! LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 The drive might well be failing at the end as it tries to close the disc, but the data still seems to be ok because the verify completed successfully. I'm not really sure how to 'help' you, it's just a case of your drive failing to do what's asked of it. That could be down to the media or just that the drive has started to wear out. As you say, that model is a couple of years old now and these things don't last forever.
Artisan Posted February 27, 2007 Author Posted February 27, 2007 Thanks for the quick reply. Will probably try the media in friends drive before looking at a replacement drive.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Are you sure it's the failure to close that's the issue with your standalone? I see the drive isn't set to booktype to DVD-ROM - if possible, it should be. If it fails to close straight after the burn but works later on via the manual method, I don't see why/how your standalone would complain.
Artisan Posted February 28, 2007 Author Posted February 28, 2007 (edited) Not sure about most things but the disc created from the log does not play in my standalone (not recognized as valid disc) but I can try in another standalone. I will also look into setting booktype to DVD-ROM, I assume this allows greater compatibility with standalones and will have no affect on the original error (?) Edited February 28, 2007 by Artisan
lfcrule1972 Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Yeah if you change the book type to DVD-ROM when you burn DL discs it should give you better compatibility with DVD players. Obviously you can't do anything about the disc you have already burnt tho.
Artisan Posted February 28, 2007 Author Posted February 28, 2007 (edited) Thanks for the responses from both Lightning UK and lfcrule1972 which have been very helpful. Think ultimately I will purchase a new burner, probably the Pioneer DVR-112, but have some additional information that hopefully will be of help. Tried to close one of my coasters manually and had the folllowing error code, Lightning UK responded in a another thread Power Calibration Error that, `Power Calibration Errors are caused by firmware that doesn't fully support the media you're using. Look for a firmware update or use different discs that the drive does support.' The original log for the problem disc mentioned above, I 18:56:25 ImgBurn Version 2.1.0.0 started! LIGHTNING UK! Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 It's only useful in the sense that we can see there's a problem with your drive burning to media - even decent media! (and we already kinda knew that) Now's a good time to run to the shops and pick up that 112 I'll be doing the same thing later on today
