Disc needs formatting

Newbie here. I've used the same type of discs for some time now (DVD+RW by hp) and recently started receiving all types of issues. When I install the disc Img says Disc Needs Formatting. Once I click on the write button, it starts the formatting process and I agree to format the disc. I get an error message. I have attached the logs

Are the discs brand new? Have you checked for a firmware update for the drive?

 

I guess it just doesn't like them at the moment.

 

The brand name on them doesn't really mean anything, they could have switched dyes without you knowing and the new one could be one your drive doesn't like.
