meathed666 Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Everything was working fine and now...I get this (log to follow) but I know my burner (hp dvd writer 840b) is working because it still burns images from DvDShrink and all the CD-R's I throw at it. polopony Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Ritek DL's are crap Verbatim +R DL's are the only way to go
kevdriver Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Meathed666, This could be caused by serval things, but since your burner still burns to other media then I would say its those RITEKS your using. Pretty dodgy media for sure. Go get some Verbatim DVD+R DL's and see what happens. Verbs are by far the best media for DL burning. Also you have buffer set to 40MB, Imgburn works great with default setting of 20 MB for the average user, unless of course you have a couple of gigs of ram.
meathed666 Posted March 3, 2007 Author Posted March 3, 2007 Thanks for the info. I knew the riteks were crappy, but hey it was worth a shot since others have worked. I guess it's possible I got a bed batch of 'em too since this only started happening with a new pack of 'em I bought. And on the ram side, thanks I have 2gb. Any other suggestions would be helpful.
meathed666 Posted March 3, 2007 Author Posted March 3, 2007 Well, same problem even after picking up the Verbatim's. Can someone please tell me what's going on here???? Shamus_McFartfinger Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Hmm.... looks alot like a drive problem. Updating or changing your IDE drivers may help. It might not. I'd be getting a new drive if it were mine.
meathed666 Posted March 3, 2007 Author Posted March 3, 2007 shamus, Thanks for the advice, I'll update the drivers. And apparently look for a new drive. Any recommendations (internal)? But please explain if you can, how the drive can perform normally with cd-r's (at max burn speed), and non-dl dvdshrink burns. Thanks for any help or advice. With help, I'll figure this thing out yet.
polopony Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 23:38:39 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: MKM-001-00) (Speeds: 2.4x) 23:38:39 Write Speed: 1x when you burn ,you need to select a speed thats supported by the drive , in this case its 2.4X that the firmware has a write strategy for you chose 1x a speed thats not supported by the FW and has no write strategy for it
meathed666 Posted March 3, 2007 Author Posted March 3, 2007 Thanks for the advice once again. I tried it again with one of the crappy riteks in order to keep from making such expensive coasters with the Verbatims. This is the log. The disc did write...with the problems seen in the log. And verify of course did not complete because of the failed sectors (I assume). It's not exactly a coaster..but it's still pretty worthless on anything second layer. What am I doing wrong? I have the right media, I know the drive works, I haven't changed any ImgBurn settings. Please help. I 09:08:55 ImgBurn Version 2.2.0.0 started! spinningwheel Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 09:33:41 Failed to Write Sectors 2099920 - 2099951 - Unknown (Vendor Unique) (0x80, 0x04) Meat...you can't use crap media to try to troubleshoot. I know that wasting the discs that you paid good money for is a pain in the ass and the wallet also, but you have to 'break good aggs' to get a good omlette...if you try using rotten ones your omlette still sux. I was unable to find a more current firmware for your burner so that's as good as it gets with the device for right now. Maybe someone else has another idea.
kevdriver Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Meathed666, As was mentioned before, Your still geting that spindle error message even with Verbs....... I think its time to look for a new drive. Lots of good ,ones out there, I like the Pioneer ones myself, newest one is the DVD 112.
meathed666 Posted March 3, 2007 Author Posted March 3, 2007 Kev, Thanks for the suggestion. I hate to think that I need a new drive (this one ain't that old). But if this continues I know I will get another. I just feel the need to understand how the drive can hit max speed with cd-r's and a different application, and has no problem with shrunken files on a single layer media using dvdshrink and another writing application. This may be beating a dead horse, but obviously I don't want to dish out greenbacks for a drive if I don't truly need one. I honestly appreciate all the feedback, and I know many here know much more about this than I do. And I don't want to sound like I'm not listening, it just seems strange is all.
dontasciime Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 drives are so cheap now in fact cheaper than the media, either try verb at 2.4x or stop kicking yourself in head and get new drive and just use that one to read iso or take riplock of it then use as reader
polopony Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 this sounds like the drive you get the same error with both medias and the spindle error is hardware ,the servo is the motor that spins the disc ,you mighjt not be getting problems because of the size limits of a cd (700 mb) with a dvd there is a greater chance of the motor heating up after 700mb and then spitting out the error because of the size of the dvd.You should pull the drive and check it in someone elses computer and also you could make sure that the drive is getting some airflow it could be overheating
