LIGHTNING UK! Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 If it won't write the leadin and nothing else it preventing that from happening (i.e. dodgy filter drivers etc not returning from I/O calls), your drive must not like the discs you're using.
Ashraf Posted April 2, 2007 Author Posted April 2, 2007 Could you Lightning UK explain what do you mean by filter drivers not returning from I/O calls Please? the discs i am using are Imation which i have been using them on the same DVD drive but with Windows XP instead and i had no problems then
LIGHTNING UK! Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Filter drivers are what all I/O has to pass through. So the path of Program -> Drive is not actually quite that simple and there's room for error. Click the Tools menu and you'll see the 'Filter Driver' tool. Copy to the clipboard and then paste the info. Then we'll be able to see what your I/O has to go through - if anything. As for the discs, we recommend Verbatim (I prefer +R ones) or Taiyo Yuden. All others are pretty useless in comparison.
lfcrule1972 Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 Verb DVD+R's and TY's get my vote for single layer discs too !
Ashraf Posted April 3, 2007 Author Posted April 3, 2007 (edited) I really appreciate your help. LIGHTNING UK! Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 A driver from 2005 in an OS with 90% of it's drivers still in Beta in 2007... I'd remove it just for the hell of it! Then I'd go into device manager and remove my IDE controller as per the DMA post in the FAQ. If that doesn't fix things, I give up.

IIRC, the Gear driver I had on my system was from Audible.com's audio book burning app (I don't use iTunes or that white, boxy music thing ). Jim
