Any way to decrease size of ISO?

I'm copying movies onto a HD (TVisto) to watch on the TV and would like to reduce some of the size of the movies to about 4 GB. Many of the movies now out there are on DL and are around 8 GB. Is there a way to make an ISO that is limited in size?

An ISO image is an exact representation of a disc, byte by byte, so, it can't be compressed.

What you can do is:

  • rip the original DVD9 to HD (we don't offer help with this step so please don't ask)
  • use a program like DVD Shrink, Nero Recode (best option), DVD Flick, etc. to compress/re-author the DVD9 to DVD5 (4.38GB or less) size (use high-quality/2pass mode for better results)
  • all the mentioned programs can output directly to an ISO image if I recall correctly

TVisto even supports NTFS, now that's a nice addition. I wish I could have one :(

By the way, if you need help with the compress/re-author step VideoHelp.com has lots of guides about it.
