I never had problems with making copies of DVDs until just recently. I have ImgBurn, Nero and DVD Shrink installed. All three with accept and read the DVD. For instance, now, I'm trying to burn the movie "Bobby." Then it gets weird--if I try to burn (write) the ISO image (or video files) to a blank DVD-R disc, it goes through the motions, and says it has been completed. However, the DVD-R disc remains empty. I'm confused, because I'm able to read and write audio cds. The programs I normally use for watching DVD's on my laptop will not play dvd's now for some reason (Windows Media, and Intervideo). When I was able to burn DVDs in the past, these programs WERE working--I wonder if there is a correlation here? Must I have a dvd viewing device in order to burn dvds? I've tried to play the DVD-R disc on my regular dvd player, but it also says it is blank.

Any suggestions???

Thanks so much in advance.

With ImgBurn, did you burn it with Verify enabled? Could you post the log from such burn?

did you happen to have test mode enabled .Post a log it really is a must when asking for help .IMGburn auto stores them Help---> IMGburn logs . It really cuts down on the guessing

Thanks, guys. Yes, I had "verify" enabled. I'll try it again today, and post the log.

I don't understand. It completes at 100%, then ejects the disc. Then, I get a message saying "device not ready, medium not present." If I insert the blank dvd again, I get an I/O error.

Update to the newest version of ImgBurn. Try some decent media, Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim, and update your firmware. Prodisc are crap and firmware is upto at least 1033 for your drive.

when youve finished doing all that Jack suggested above  your main problem is that the quality of those discs is that poor, the drive cant even read them afterwards . but DO do as Jack said with firmware and the newer version of IB

Is the disc actually "blank" or is it full and just not readable? An image that size should fill the entire disc and maybe it just looks like it's blank. If you compare the bottom of this disc to a new disc, are they the same color or is one lighter? If you put the disc back into the drive after a burn what does the disc info window say? If the disc is really blank, then it would seem that your drive is just pretending to burn the disc and that's why it can't verify it. In this case, I would probably recommend a new drive.

Thanks, Jack. Can you recommend some sites where I can d/l these for free?

This dvd and a blank one looks exactly the same to me. When I put this disc back in the drive, the pop-up says "Blank disc," and asks me if I want to burn to the disc.

I'm using Maxell DVD-R 4.7 GB, 16x, 2hr DVD's, by the way. Are they lame? I've always used these, and never had a problem with them.

Oh and you may want to check out the FAQs section as well - look at the piece on slow burning and DMA issues, I know your drive is only showing supported speeds of 1x and 2x but I would expect your speed to be nearer 2x than 1x
