blikkies Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 Hi Does anybody know if hacked firmware (herrie, etc) is any good. Why is there a need for hacked firmware and who are these developers. Im very weiry of the thought of using firmware that is not provided by the manufacture not to mention the loss of warranty
volvofl10 Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 because "hacked" firmware is created by people who recognise that they can make your device do more than the manufacturer can which in turn may save you having to buy the latest drive whereas your exisiting drive can be upgraded by firmware instead
spinningwheel Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 To add to what volvo said...I used Herries for years when I was using the NEC drive and never had a problem. With the BenQ and Plex I use firmware from either the manufacturer or the rpc1.org site and again, have not experienced difficulty.
lfcrule1972 Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 I have used Herries extensively with my NEC drives and never had a problem, have also been able to return them to stock NEC fw when required without difficulties too
