Help, Help!!

This is most likely not a bug in the software but I can't for the life of me, figure out what or why it happens. I burn backups of my current 2006 and 07 Movie DVD's with DVD Encryptor. About every 5th or 7th different DVD I burn, the software hangs and freezes. The rest of the time it works fine. When it hangs its always at 21% complete. I have tried different burn speed settings and usually I include the Verify option which works only when I get complete burn discs, of course.

So today I moved on to ImgBurn thinking that this software is a few years newer and will eliminate the DVDD problem. Wrong again. Same thing happened with the same settings and at the same point of burn (21%) during the writing phase. After more than an hour at this stage it finally gives me a new error box.

I/O Error (semaphore timeout) but I don't think that is the problem. Here is a typical log.

Thanks much for the help and insights in advance.

I 20:46:23 Destination Media Type: DVD+R (Disc ID: AML-001-00) (Speeds: 1x, 2x, 4x)

Get better disks. These are pure crap. We recommend Verbatims or Taiyo Yudens only.

I 20:46:23 Destination Device: [1:1:0] DVDRW IDE1008 0055 (H:) (ATA)

Update your firmware - see http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1727 (0060 is the latest)

I 20:46:23 Write Speed: MAX

Slow down - it's not a race.

Thanks Les for the advise. I will do these things.

I am quite new to this. Because the first 10 or so worked I didn't think the media could be an issue. I did think about the firmware update but didn't even know what manfg brand I had for DVDR. I did request the speed to be 4 but apparently it did not take or save.

thanks again.
