Consider a firmware update - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2034

Or you may have some bad disks or the burner may be duff.

Note: The log, in text form, is available via the help menu.

So they are (the logs), thanks for the tip. :)

The firmware is the latest (QS12), and this is the second set of Verbatims I've tried. My money is on a duff drive: this is a replacement they sent me for the previous one.

Any suggestions on what make or model to go for next? I won't bother with HP again after the hassle I had getting them to acknowledge the fault and replace the original.

BenQ's are nearly impossible to find these days too....

Pioneer, Lite-On, Samsung, NEC...

Problem sorted...with a new sparkly Samsung SH-183A.

The media is OK, my system is OK and the drive burns clean. Looks like it was the HP doorstop after all.
