Anchor1 Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 (edited) I have authored a DVD on hard disk using DVDLab from a number of recorded TV shows using a simple menu. When I try to output to file or burn directly to DVD disk using ImgBurn I get the same message, "Unable to find any cells that could be used for a layer break!" I have re-authored the DVD, twice, re-constructing the menu etc to no avail. It's not the first time I have done this, it has always worked before. ImgBurn has found at least one cell suitable for a layer break and often two or even three, but this time it can't find any. A search on this forum has found others have had this to but the symptoms and cure look nothing like mine. The authored DVD is in a VIDEO_TS folder as usual and Windows reports the folder contains 6.78 GB. I'm hopeing someone can explain why this is happening because so far I am more than pleased with ImgBurn. The reliability of burns on my Pioneer 111L using MKM-001 DL Verbatims has been 100%. I really don't want to go back to Nero or CopyToDVD. thankyou edit: I should mention I am using ImgBurn 2.3.2.0 Edited June 22, 2007 by Anchor1
LIGHTNING UK! Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 You need to insert some chapters / cells so that you can split it nicely. If there aren't any in the regions that 'should' work as a layer break position, there's no way to make a proper layer break. Using other tools wouldn't get around that, they'd just be ignoring the specs if they worked. I too could just burn it and forget about correct alignment, but I decided not to.
Anchor1 Posted June 22, 2007 Author Posted June 22, 2007 Thanks for the fast reply Lightning. Are you saying that If I created chapters in each of the 5 videos in this compilation, say with auto-chapters in DVDLab, ImgBurn might be able to find suitable cells in the right area? cheers
LIGHTNING UK! Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 Yeah, cells or chapters. You just really need them around the midway point - i.e. between 3 and 4GB if the image is 6.7GB
Anchor1 Posted June 22, 2007 Author Posted June 22, 2007 Well, thats great. I have just re-authored this DVD with 10 chapters in each of the 5 videos using the auto-chapters feature of DVDLab and now ImgBurn finds no less than 9 "Average" layer break positions. Thanks Lightning, I think I'm on the right track.

I also have this "Unable to find any cells for a layer break"-problem a lot . At least half of the DVD9-movies I try to burn produce such an error. The only *easy* way for me to get around it is to use Nero Burning ROM.. which always burns the movies without a problem. But of course I'd rather like to continue using ImgBurn . And I really don't have the nerves and the know-how to start some authoring-tool and change chapters.. Why can't ImgBurn do this difficult task of creating a chapter at the needed location automatically? Isn't it possible to include this function? Or at least some kind of "Ignore specs & do it like Nero"-button ;-).. so that ImgBurn-Fans don't have to go back to Nero for these cases... Looking forward to hear from you, LIGHTNING UK! And thanks for this COOL tool!
blutach Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 Welcome to ImgBurn Forum. Creating a chapter is the job of the authoring program. It involves reasonably complex manipulations of the VOBs and IFOs - something which ImgBurn does not (and, as a burning program, never will) do. All commercial DVD-9s will be authored with a layer break at an appropriate position. If your project can't find one, then something is very wrong. You should post a log. Regards
