Burn issues....HELP!!!

I consider myself to be a semi-experienced DVD Decrypter/Igmburn user and I'm having the following issue:

 

I have a Pioneer DVR-109 burner that is using Firmware v. 1.58. I've checked the Pioneer website and this is the most recent firmware update they have available and using Imgburn v2.3.2.0 which is also the most recent version. I'm using Imation DVD-R 16x blank media due to having mega compatibility issues with Verbatim media. I receive and I/O error every few burns and am not sure what to do. I restart my system which is an AMD 2.0 Ghz w/ 1.0Gig of memory, and then I'll be able to burn a

DVD or two and start having the same issue. Sometimes I reboot and have issues right away. It's getting quite frustrating cause it seems to "write lead-in", and then seems to get stuck in the burn and doesn't proceed further 7%. After a minute or two the I/O error will pop up and even clicking the retry button gives me an additional error which I'll post with this. I seem to be getting 1 DVD burnt to 3 I/O Error burns.

I'd say media is your problem judging by the error messages "failed to write sector"

have you changed brands recently ?, does it do this with other brands as well ?

Indeed, a write error means exactly what it says. The drive had a problem when trying to write to the disc. Change the media or change the drive. Simple as that I'm afraid.

I have one last question on this issue. Is it possible for the drive to have failed, but still be able to burn CD's? Reason I ask is, and I might be wrong with this, but I use Imation CD-R's and have had no problem. Also, I'm able to burn CD's just fine with this drive. When a drive fails does it fail on both sides of the spectrum usually or can it just fail on one side of it? Sides of spectrum meaning DVD-R's compared to CD-R's.

 

Let me know what you think on this. I just want to make sure I rule everything out before forking out for the new drive.
