dbminter Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 IF Seagate is smart, they'll shutter Maxtor's stuff. My only experience with them has been in Compaq machines. And, one that I had died within 30 days. I know some like Maxtor, but, I've yet to have a problem with any Seagates, even one I bought in 2002. That one is now only not used because I can't really mix SATA and PATA without some kind of slow down due to the older drive, and, I don't have an enclosure handy.
lfcrule1972 Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 I have an 80gb Maxtor HDD that I installed at the start of this year - no issues with it all, when I read up about it, it was getting good reviews as well..... Funny how opinions vary so much eh ? Guess it goes to prove the old saying "Opinions are like Arseholes - everybody's got one !"
zacoz Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Funny how opinions vary so much eh ? Guess it goes to prove the old saying "Opinions are like Arseholes - everybody's got one !" But don't you hate it when they try to shove them in your face though Opinions that is --- unless it's one like Mr Fixers avatar.
lfcrule1972 Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 I would have no problem with Mr Fixers Av shoving it in my face mate oh and lmao2k that wasn't directed at you fella - your arsehole..... er advice has always been spot on !!
kirk1701™ Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 I'm going to miss maxtors myself. Only drives I have ever used, never a minutes problem. Knock on wood
tigerman8u Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 In my experience most of Maxtor's problems seemed to be in their larger drives over 120 gb
cornholio7 Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 i have 2x 250gb maxtors in raid 0 - no probs here i also have a 160gb maxtor , no probs either (oh and 2 x 80gb maxtors in raid 0 too)
Snazz Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 I've come full circle and only buy WDC drives now. I was Buying IBM's but they are totally utterly useless
kirk1701™ Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 Everyone has their own favorites and thats what they are used too and always use. I might try a seagate in the future but I see myself probably going to WDC
Snazz Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 Western Digital did loose it for a short while, but I think they are back in the best ones again.

I might try a seagate in the future but I see myself probably going to WDC Seagates are pretty much all I use. Got a couple of Maxtors and W/Digital drives around the place but I like Seagates for their reliability and the fact that they run cooler than other drives (which is why they're almost always used in modded XBoxes and Playstations). Anything that can help keep the temperature down inside the box has gotta be a good thing.
zacoz Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 Noticed too that my 160G Seagate runs approx 3 C / 6 F cooler than my 80G Western Digital.
