Hi - - I don't think this is necessarily related to ImgBurn, but thought I'd try my luck here.

Lately, I've been having problems with my burns.

The burns go ok, but verifying, I'm getting read failures (Failed to Read Sector 2210689 - No Seek Complete). Usually, around 97-98% of the verify.

I had no problems with my current Taiyo Yuden Silver Thermal 8X TYG02

DVD-R 100-pack... but suddenly, with 30 or so to go, this started... the last 5-10 burns.

So, I'm wondering if it's the discs, or my drive (NEC DVD_RW ND-3520AW) is going.

Could someone advise how to figure out what the problem is?

I have DVDInfoPro installed, but the graphs mean nothing to me ;)

Any help would be appreciated... thanks!

Hello burf. Welcome to the ImgBurn forum.

Your problem could be happening for a number of different reasons. Please post a log of one of the burns.

Thanks MJ ;)

Two logs below... one near the end of verify, & one in the middle.

I really appreciate your help!

Thanks again!

have you tried a lens cleaner on the drive? the discs are good so it may be worth trying to run a lens cleaner on the drive to see if it helps , otherwise it may be the drive dying

i thought genuine TYG02 only went upto 8x ?

i know some drives will write faster than 8x to them ( plextor ? ) but not sure about an NEC . maybe soemone with a drive that writes faster than 8x to a genuine TYG02 disc can confirm if it shows more than 8x in the disc ID info part of the log

Nope... never tried a lens cleaner. Any recommendations?

Yeah, I've always been curious about the 12x, too, but never tried faster than 8x.

They are the genuine... got them from Supermediastore.

I was wondering about the disks, because it just started suddenly, and most of the bad burns are happening around 97-98%, which to me, tended to point to them, rather than the drive.

Luckily, it's usually in the credits, so I'm not trying another disk.

Anyone know of a good app that can test the drive?

Thanks again for the help!

Just to throw my 2 cents into the mix, The drive is fairly old so it could be getting ready to retire. New drives are so reasonably priced now, it might be an idea to just buy a new one and be done with it. :)

Yeah, I've thought about just buying a new one, but wondered if there is any good software, to diagnose drives.

As for the lens cleaner, I've never bought one. Anything specific to try?

Thanks again for the help!

lens cleaner its a CD with a couple of bristles on one WET the other Dry drop some of the solution that comes with it onto the Wet bristle pop the CD into ROM drive and open my computer browse for the CD and it will have a few audio tracks on it play and follow instructions.

Depends where you live as to choice and price generally a couple of

I used to just take drive apart get some lense cleaning cloth and isoprol alcohol and clean it that way, too much hassle with some drives though

Sounds like a warranty voider as well... :D

Posted

Thanks... I'll try that before buying another drive.

I'll be buying a new computer soon, & would rather wait to get it all at once ;)

Thanks again!

A new drive costs about as much as a spindle of discs...the good ones are pretty cheap anymore.

Posted

Hate to ask, but any recommendations for drives?

Most of the reviews I'm finding, are for older drives.

Of newer ones, the one I keep seeing pop up, though, is the Lite-on LH-20A1H.

Posted

The Lite-On you listed should be a pretty good drive. The new Samsungs, Pioneers and LG's are also strong contenders. I think the current Pioneers are 112D's and Blu should be able to give good insight on a good LG. Stay away from Sony, memorex & HP...they are typically rebranded drives from the manufacturers listed above with a slight premium in price added.

A cheap and reliable source would be http://www.newegg.com

Hello, I am new to the forum and not that tech savy. I have been using the program successfully for a few months but now I can't burn anything. The program runs fine and even gives me the little jingle when complete, but when I check the disk to see if anything is on it, it's blank. Can anyone help me?
