Shamus_McFartfinger Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Grab a firmware update for your drive and see if that fixes the problem. You'll want version 1.02 http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2286
alexnestian Posted August 17, 2007 Author Posted August 17, 2007 Thanks for the quick response . Now i`m flashing it with 1.02 and i going to buy another disk to give it another try
alexnestian Posted August 17, 2007 Author Posted August 17, 2007 (edited) Yes you will . But that i spend on this disc now the last money i had . So if it works at least i will stay the weekend home playing Bioshock . If not ... later edit : should i try the test mode ? it won't write anythimg on my disk , no ? later edit 2 : my dvd writter doesn't see the disk in tray now .. after the firmware update .... what's wrong ? Edited August 17, 2007 by alexnestian
alexnestian Posted August 17, 2007 Author Posted August 17, 2007 (edited) yes ... i only thought of the worst posible .. what is test mode ? Edited August 17, 2007 by alexnestian
Shamus_McFartfinger Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Ignore the test mode. Nothing will work until you reboot. Your drive has to reset itself before you can use it.
alexnestian Posted August 17, 2007 Author Posted August 17, 2007 i rebooted and the results are : i inserted the DL disk .. "medium not present " , i inserted other disks and the windows says that they are empty disk . But in imgburn they apear "disk not empty" .
Shamus_McFartfinger Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Silly question: Do you have another disk you can toss into the drive? Another brand? A single layer? A re-writable?
alexnestian Posted August 17, 2007 Author Posted August 17, 2007 I just tried to burn a normal CD and it work . Then i inserted another CD with a movie and it didn't read it . And the imgburn still won't read the DL disk
Shamus_McFartfinger Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Just to clarify, it's not Imgburn that isn't reading the disk. It's the drive itself. Imgburn only reports the errors - it doesn't create them. Try burning a disk with a different burning program like Nero. If it succeeds, there could be a problem with your SPTI.device as Nero uses custom drivers and not the ones provided with Windows.
alexnestian Posted August 17, 2007 Author Posted August 17, 2007 (edited) Yes . Sorry i wasn't clear enough . I tried with success to burn a CD with Nero . What should i do about the SPTI ? is there any way i could reflash the firmware to it's initial version : 1.00 ? Edited August 17, 2007 by alexnestian
Shamus_McFartfinger Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Don't go backwards with your firmware. Try this instead. 1. Download and install the TRIAL version of CloneDVD from here: http://www.clonedvd.net/download.html 2. Reboot 3. Load Imgburn and open the settings from the Tools menu 4. Click on the I/O tab and under "interface" you should have SPTI -Microsoft selected. Change this to ElbyCDIO - Elaborate Bytes 5. Close and re-start Imgburn
alexnestian Posted August 17, 2007 Author Posted August 17, 2007 (edited) the same .. ... i do not think the disk could be the problem ... Edited August 17, 2007 by alexnestian
Shamus_McFartfinger Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Well, this is roughly where Lightning_UK comes in. He's the only one that can decipher what the drive is complaining about. He'll be along soon. Lightning_UK! A problem for you.
alexnestian Posted August 17, 2007 Author Posted August 17, 2007 so, is there anyway i could reflash the firmware to the initial ?
dontasciime Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 reflash the drive with 102 again Take out any discs and make sure tray is closed before flashing once flashed restart your computer. If the same remove the controller from device manage and let windows pick up hardware again. If you have packet writing software installed remove it like neros InCd use the nero cleaner to remove it fully http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/InCD_Clean_Tool.html you might have to look for the right version cleaning tool if your using incd
alexnestian Posted August 17, 2007 Author Posted August 17, 2007 done all of them and it still don't read the DL disks.. i would like to flash back and see if then it reads them ..
LIGHTNING UK! Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 If the drive is saying there's no media in the tray, I don't see how *any* program could magically work - all the commands used to access the media should fail. I'd flash it again if I were you - and make sure there's not a disc in the drive when you do so.
alexnestian Posted August 17, 2007 Author Posted August 17, 2007 (edited) I already flashed it again . While there weren't any disks inside i flashed to 1.01 and now the drive read the blank disk i will try to burn now . last time i got error at 6% . Now it is at 3% ... please god .. make it work yet again i got error at 6% ... so it is the 7th disk is destroy ... maybe is the writter ? Edited August 17, 2007 by alexnestian

Sorry. sorry, as u can tel I'm extremely new to all of this but i really do want to understand alot better. is file sharing, such as lime wire, legal?
Shamus_McFartfinger Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 File sharing copyrighted content such as music, movies and tv shows is generally illegal. It depends alot on what country you're in. There are some legal uses for file sharing such as downloading Linux distributions, for example. There are also a few recording artists that allow their music to be downloaded legally but they are pretty rare. As a general rule though, file sharing is illegal.
