I read the other topics concerning a portable ImgBurn. For the people that do not know, a portable version of any program is one that does not create any registry entries, loads/saves all settings from .INI files, and can be put on a USB flash stick and can be put into any computer and will run perfectly.

Now, I've been using quite a few portable applications from this famous website called PortableApps.com, and it tries to convert all OpenSource applications to Portable applications.

The one feature that everyone likes about this is that no one likes "footprints" to be left behind from any program. So uninstalling should be as easy as deleting the directory from Program Files rather than uninstalling the program and then trying to delete every registry entry.

I know this has been posted before, but since the website I mentioned earlier has drawn so much attention because so many people have the same mind-set, I was hoping you could add this feature in the next version to make sure it does not touch the registry at all and only saves the settings to .INI files.

One last example. I was in a different country for 6 weeks and I could only use my Aunt's computer. She is very particular about the computer and did not want me to install anything. When I asked why, she told me she doesn't want any extra registry entries because her registry is already cluttered. I then remembered of that website (PortableApps.com), and quickly went there and downloaded my favorite apps and my Aunt was also satisfied with this.

So it's a real huge plus if you can add this feature. I would be very happy and I'm sure others would as well. :)

Thank you for hearing me out.

There are 2 CLI switches that do what you want:

/SETTINGS "<File Name>"

Used to override loading the settings from the registry, and instead load from / save to the specified file.

If the file does not exist, default settings will be used and the program will attempt to save to the specified file when it's closed.

Even if this switch is not specified, the program will attempt to load from 'ImgBurn.ini' in the application exe's directory BEFORE it loads from the registry.

/NOSAVESETTINGS

Used to tell the program not to save ANY settings when it's closed.

I've also added a '/PORTABLE' CLI command (and reg setting) for the next version so it will save settings (to an ini file or whatever it's configured to do) but won't touch the file extension stuff (which it normally would regardless) that is always registry based.

So now there are combinations to suit everyone's needs.

hi...

I lost my job for using ImgBurn..

At my company we're not supposed to install software on the production PC's...

I *thought* that creating ImgBurn.ini would keep it in portable mode, but I made a big mistake :(

I created a ImgBurn.ini and then ran ImgBurn --- It wrote a bunch of stuff into my registry and caused the Network Admin to find out...

PLEASE create a "portable=1" entry in the .ini which causes ImgBurn to start up in ImgBurn /portable mode every time

It's too easy to make a mistake and accidentally click on the EXE, and having to use a .bat is bad.

You're joking aren't you? You lost your job for disobeying company policy!!! Remember the company? It's their assets you were playing with and their time you were on. It was you who disregarded what they had clearly pointed out to you about their property. Had you done it on my PC, I would have bloody well throttled you - and hard. You were lucky!!!

Sorry to seem unsympathetic, but to say what you did is pure and utter bullshit. Now, go find another job and don't do it again.

There is one: it's called PortableMode=1 and you have to add it manually.

And you'd be a dipshit. Maintaining a network is a huge job. Ignorant twats like you are a good example of why company networks go down - that being the installation of unauthorised software - regardless of how harmless you think that act might be. Come back when you know what you're talking about.

And if Jina hadn't been as stupid as he is, he woulda read the bloody readme file and searched the forum.

Well mate, you got some time on your hands to do that now. =))

Gee, we get some fuckheads around here. Anyway, being so bloody dumb, your boss woulda caught up with you in time anyway. You just did them a favour and saved them the embarrassment of realising how bad a decision they made when they hired you.

Now, stop feeling sorry for yourself and go get a new job and don't do it again.

And, btw, I don't have a boss (except for Firey, of course, and she's in Sydney right now ;)).

@shamus

I know of a bloke in a big company I used to consult to who had something like 10,000 porn pics on his work PC. Took the company a while to catch up to him (cos they are an inefficient lot), but they did and fired him on the spot. Goodbye $300,000+ job, super, fully maintained company car (it was a Lexus, I think), company credit cards and expense allowance; and imagine what he had to tell his wife!

What gets me is that the guy had all this time to DL porn when he was a general manager of part of the company. Some job if you can get it, huh? Paid all that dough to DL porn.

My mate here who had to fire him told me the bloke actually landed on his feet a few months later. Got a job with more pay (and better access to the internet, I bet!!!) So, maybe Jina can hope. =))
