SO I am new to this also. I ahve read all the stuff I can and think I am doing it right. I have read everything here regarding medai and am using Verbatim dvd+r dl up to 8x speed. I have tried with DVD Decrypter and got the same errors. I dont know if it is me the media or the burner. hoping I cna get some help. I tried searching the forum but could never find anything that matched. I have checked my firmeware with the manufacutrer and it is all up to date according to their site.

Here is the log:

so are the discs not backward compatible. If the burner will only run at 2.4 do you ahve to use a disc that is only 2.4 compatible. I know when using it to burn cd's that is the case. I ahve used the burner for single layer dvd's with no problem in the past. If that is the case then I may give it a shot. JUst hate that I spent money on these and they wont work.

dual layer burning has just begun to mature in my opinion

you are using a 2004 burner with 2005 firmware

those 8x verbatims didn't show up till early 2006

A new burner is the way to go for dual layer

Posted (edited)

I was hoping you wouldnt say that. I havent even used it that much

so you really think that is the only option.

I would rather not buy a new one considering how little I do and will use it.

if that is the case I will just compress it and burn it to a single layer disc

with those 8x disks, yes

but you could spend more money and try the 2.4x ones

they might work in your burner

Yes, chewy is telling you they're not supported by your drive.

The 2.4x ones are though.

Hence MKM 001 being listed and not your MKM 003 ones.

I can understand the desire to try newer technology, such as DL media, but when most things fit just fine with little or no compression on SL media which is proven, cheaper and more reliable....I just can't justify the cost difference.

Posted

ok so reading through what I have been able to find on here does MKM=Verbatim? Or is that very over generalized?

If I stick with Verbatim discs from a big box store and it is 2.4x and DL disc I should be ok? I am not a techie type person. I jsut keep asking questions and messing with stuff until it eventually works or I just give up. Like I told my wife it is not even the file being burned at this piont it is jsut getting it to work period.

Ok so now I have a mkm-001 disc and this is what I got now.

Looks like the same thing as before. Like I said I have checked the firmware and it is up to date. SO any other ideas or direction that can be given

Just so you know I have also tried using record now adn all I get from it is insert a blank disc. Only reason I was using it is because it is the program that came with the burner.

make sure the dvd burner is connected to an 80 conductor, jumper it as master and connect to the end of the cable with no other drive connected to the ide cable or the power connectors from the power supply

verify in bios and device manager that dma is set for the drive correctly

I have absolutely no idea what that means. It is not an external drive so power is through the tower.

I am trying to figure the DMA crap now but not sure where or how. I am in device manager but I don't see anything taht relates to DMA.

I found this site through mrbass.org that site has soemthing about fat32 and 4g and needing it to be ntfs. does taht have anything to do with what I am encountering

Posted (edited)

if I change bios settings what should I be setting them to? Or better yet how do I know if I need to change them?

Checked the DMA settings and it looks like everything is set to DMA.

What in the world am I doig wrong. SHould it really be this hard to do.

I went into the advanced settings and changed the book type to dvd+r dl and got this far. then it quit. I was able to do it with both the 2.4 and 8 disc.

any more ideas

the previous log I posted was from teh 2.4 disk. I will say it is a Sony disc but it clearly states it is a mkm-001

this log is with the 8x disc

Buy a new drive like a pioneer 112 or liteon20A1P or Latest Samsung.

If they still do not work return them or get someone qualified to look at your computer and reinstall operating system.

although its a sony disc that uses the MKM dye, that doesnt mean its as good as a genuine verbatim disc using the MKM dye

a similar thing happens with taiyo yuden's dye. Fuji use it on there discs, but it fails and genuine Taiyo yudens work ! go figure

until you try a genuine verbatim disc with MKM 001 dye you cant rule out the media . even though it was a sony disc with the MKM 001 dye, that doesnt mean its anywhere near as good as a verbatim with MKM 001 dye.

we ONLY recommend genuine Verbatim discs with MKM 001 dye at 2.4x

I would favor sony dl MIS over verbatim dl MII, tho both should be some of the best compared to any other available

there have even been samples of maxell? MIS mkm's sent out, looks like verbatim/mitsubshi is making some for other brands now that production in India is starting
