rogjack Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 Tried to erase a DVD-RAM on a Pioneer 112 with imageburn. Process ended prematurely without error message and now the media shows as corrupt. Is there any way I can repair this disk or is it a throwaway? Maybe I shouldn't have used erase disk on this type of media?

The disc can then only be used for burning images to via 'Write' mode or files to via 'Build' mode (another proper burning tool). The OS won't deal with it until the disc has been formatted and the file system recreated. btw, what makes you think it ended prematurely if there was no error message? If it failed, there would be a message of some sort!

Tried to write a disk image to it using "write" but it just reports "media format corrupted" I think if finished prematurely because when I last looked it had 10% finished and then shortly afterwards it just stopped. Looking at the surface of the disk it appears to be 10% written by the colour difference.

It just seems as though there's something wrong with the disc - or at least the drive doesn't appear to like it very much. In a last ditch attempt, you might like to turn off the 'spare areas' option in the ImgBurn settings (on the Write tab). You could also try Panasonics DVDFORM tool and see if that works.

Says "the disk drive for the setup cannot be found - error 071" I think it probably doesn't recognise the Pioneer. Installer says it's for Blu-ray.

rogjack Posted September 13, 2007 Author Posted September 13, 2007 Fixed it! Took three attempts at formatting with DVDFORM before it went all the way through. Each time got a little bit further. Final format took 58 minutes. Think I'll avoid erasing disks in future. Thanks for all the help.

I am using the 1.22 firmware, but I don't know if that supports more types or not. Writing has not been a problem with the Ritek disks I'm using. Never failed verify either. Only problem has been trying to erase. I'll avoid that for now and just delete files.

(I could erase another one right this second if it would mean anything?!) The problem is just with the drive/firmware/media combo. Try getting some panasonic dvdram discs and forget the ritek ones.
