Dick Cheney Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Hi guys, I've been trying to burn a double-layer DVD using my trusty Pioneer DVR-110D (latest firmware) and Verbatim DL discs. They usually work together like an absolute charm. However on this particular disc, I received an "invalid address to write" message upon trying to burn the ISO file. So I took apart the ISO and used Build mode to rebuild it. When I did so, I got the following weird Layer Break Positions (see attached JPG). I tried using the VTS_03 as the break, then the first choice (VTS_02_0.BUP). Both resulted in the same message as earlier. Anyone know what's going on? I tried looking thru the guide fpr burning DL DVDs, no luck. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
mmalves Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Please post the full log from that burn (you can find it at Help/ImgBurn logs). The problem is most probably unrelated to the layerbreak.

The problem is most probably unrelated to the layerbreak. Sorry, please see below. I am currently retrying the burn at 2.4x speed only. However, I have never had an issue with AUTO speed before. mmalves Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 AUTO means it'll use the Automatic Write Speed Feature, which, by default, burns the disc at MAX speed, and this is not a good idea, especially with dual-layer media. When burning dual-layer media always use 2.4x.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 btw, I'd personally pick the VTS_03_0.IFO entry.
Dick Cheney Posted September 20, 2007 Author Posted September 20, 2007 btw, I'd personally pick the VTS_03_0.IFO entry. Wow, changed it to 2.4x speed this time and it made all the difference. Boy do I feel dumb. Thanks you guys!
LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 learn how to use the 'Automatic Write Speed' feature, it'll save you time in the future.
blutach Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 btw, I'd personally pick the VTS_03_0.IFO entry. There's 2 schools of thought on this one: 1. Have the whole VTS on one layer so you aren't swapping back and forwards - this would mean breaking at VTS_03_0.IFO (as LUK suggested) 2. Ensure the IFO and BUP are on different layers for protection (ie if one can't be read the other may be). This would mean breaking after the IFO (eg VTS_03_0.VOB). I used to prefer option 1, but most DVDs are authored to go back to VMG on layer 0 anyway to get to the next title. So now, I prefer option 2 (although it really is a marginal gain). Regards
