silver999x Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 Fustrated as hell!! Maybe someone can help me out! Windows Ultimate ImgBurn 2.3.2.0 Sony Dru-830a (4 months old, Burn Succcess Rate at 100%) I was able to burn DVD-ROM booktype settings at all times until last week using the same'ol routine. Now im stuck on booktype DVD+DL. Look!! ------------------- SONY DVD RW DRU-830A SS25 (ATA) Current Profile: DVD+R DL Disc Information: Status: Empty Erasable: No Free Sectors: 4,173,824 Free Space: 8,547,991,552 bytes Free Time: 927:32:74 (MM:SS:FF) Supported Write Speeds: 2.4x DVD±R DL Boundary Information: L0 Data Zone Capacity: 2,086,912 Changeable: Yes Physical Format Information (ADIP): Disc ID: RITEK-D01-01 Book Type: DVD+R DL Part Version: 1 Disc Size: 120mm Maximum Read Rate: Not Specified Number of Layers: 2 Track Path: Opposite Track Path (OTP) Linear Density: 0.293 um/bit Track Density: 0.74 um/track First Physical Sector of Data Area: 196,608 Last Physical Sector of Data Area: 16,580,607 Last Physical Sector in Layer 0: 2,283,519 Physical Format Information (Last Recorded): Disc ID: RITEK-D01-01 Book Type: DVD+R DL Part Version: 1 Disc Size: 120mm Maximum Read Rate: Not Specified Number of Layers: 2 Track Path: Opposite Track Path (OTP) Linear Density: 0.293 um/bit Track Density: 0.74 um/track First Physical Sector of Data Area: 196,608 Last Physical Sector of Data Area: 16,580,607 Last Physical Sector in Layer 0: 2,283,519 ----------------- For anyone thats wondering about my frimware not being the newest, i decided to downgrade from my recent upgrade because it was not making a difference to this problem. Nero on the other hand has an advanced setting that is set to DVD-ROM, not sure if this makes a difference. All backup attempts are failing now! lots of DVD+DL's down the drain. I have tested this spindal cakebox of Memorex DVD+DL's on my friends laptop burning the same info with success thinking it was a bad batch of DVD's. His Imgburn (same as my version) read booktype DVD-ROM off the bat before the first burn with success. Hoping there is a solution for my sony where maybe i can read this booktype bitsetting before i burn. Any help would be appreciated! PS. dont ask if I have tried reinstalling windows...
LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 Unless you're setting the booktype option before every burn, it's not going to be automatic with that drive. You need to add it to the 'Samsung' list on the 'Advanced' page within the booktype options screen.

LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 So you're already added 'SONY DVD RW DRU-830A' to the Samsung list? Ok so now check the commands are actually working - can you change the booktype manually and have it say 'success' ? (You'll need to have the blank in the drive obviously) and you've got the 'automatic change booktype' option enabled? and your drive burns + verifies the discs ok without any retries / errors? (a log would be nice!)

LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 I 16:17:58 Source Media Type: DVD+R DL (Book Type: DVD-ROM) (Disc ID: RITEK-D01-01) (Speeds: 2.4x) Looks like the booktype stuff worked that time. As for the error, that could be anything really. The drive gave up trying to read the sector - hence the timeout. I'm afraid that's probably what you get for using the cheapo DL discs! Get some Verbatim 2.4x DVD+R DL ones and see if they're any better (they will be!).

I have been using these memorex dvd+dl with no problems on previous burns till last week , hence thats why im posting. (thought i had a booktype problem) But another funny thing is that i thought maybe somehow this new spindle of memorex dvd+dl dvd's were a bad batch of DVD's. (hmm. is that possible) Anyways, i have ordered verbatim dvd+dl couple of days ago (ooo.. and here they are) thinking that this may solve my problem.... so off to burn i go with the verify option cheked. i will keep you posted. many thanx!! My problem was solved. --------------------------------------------- Original problem = thought i had a booktype setting problem Steps i took to resolve = 1. Posted on the Forum, 2. Made sure i checked my verify option in imgburn and found out after burn that my dvd writer failed to read the burned DVD+DL Outcome= (Thanx to Lightning UK!) Got rid of my cheapo Memorex DVD+DL and switched to Verbatim. (which is odd because the Memorex DVD+DL used to work fine) Results = Problem Solved My thanx Lightning UK! for your insight.
