stevezemlicka Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Just installed imgburn on a client's computer. Most disks read fine but a few don't. AFAIK, they passed the verify and the client burned them exactly the same as the others (same media, same options, etc). A few of the disks cannot be read though. They say insert disk when trying to open the CD or DVD. Is there anything that would cause this to sparatically happen? Don't recall the exact burner but it is from a new dell vostro. Any help or suggestions are very much appreciated. Thank you.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Slow the write speed down, use decent media, check for firmware updates.
stevezemlicka Posted October 10, 2007 Author Posted October 10, 2007 I just slowed down the write rate because she is having speed issues while burning also (using photoshop). I set the write rate to 1x but it is still burning at 4x. any ideas?
chewy Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 without even a computer model, no idea of what burner, not to mention which blanks, all you will get is wild guess's start with verbatim media, burn at 4x go from there a burn log will tell us the rest
stevezemlicka Posted October 10, 2007 Author Posted October 10, 2007 I didn't give a computer model because Dell uses so many different brands but the drive is an hl-dt-st gsa-h73n and the DVDs are memorex. What's funny is a couple of them didn't work initially but when I logged in remotely, we could read them fine. I still would like to get the writing speed down to 1x or 2x if that's possible. not sure where to find the log at, nothing in the program folder. is that something that has to be enabled or just copied from the log window.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Hardly any drives will burn at 1x on media now. They're all geared towards faster burning - hence 8x may actually work better than 4x. If you look in ImgBurn's 'Help' menu you'll see the 'Logs' option and find where they're stored - can't use 'Program Files' because it's locked down and read-only for 'normal' users.
stevezemlicka Posted October 11, 2007 Author Posted October 11, 2007 (edited) This is the log file. I selected 2.4x for the burn speed and the actual burn speed is 4x (which I think is limited by the media). The reason I want to slow it down is because she is using photoshop while burning and the disk throughput gets maxed out while burning and slows the response to photoshop. We'd rather a slower burn than slowing down photoshop. I 11:18:43 ImgBurn Version 2.3.2.0 started! polopony Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 Ritek just isn't the company it used to be, the preferred media is Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim these are the best discs and your chances of success go way up if you use them .Memorex who sell a lot of media is crap also
