Soggoth Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 Hello Everyone, I am new to the forums and firstly i'd like to say that imgburn is fantastic, no fancy backgrounds and slowness, never had any problems and I thank again the devs who have done an amazing work since the dvddecrypter days but there are some problems I found out lately and only when burning xbox360 images. Basically i have encountered this errors only with DL media. I burn a lot of single layer media and never have had any problem, neither with verification. If i leave out the power calibration errors which probably mean bad quality media i am quite frankly puzzled. I run Vista and with 2Gigs of ram it is a very hungry system, i nearly regret installing it. I have checked DMA transfers and the modes are ok. Below is a summary of different logs with differet media - mostly unsuccessful - except once. I admit that TRAXDATA discs are not quality but I expected VERBATIM and MAXELL(who have a RITEK layer) to at least give me nearly without problem burns. What I found out is that Verbatims are the most problematic of the all. The errors i have are: - L-EC related - basic miscompare errors Now, I do not know how does imgburn work exactly but i have tried some other things. 1.) I tried comparing the image with the burned DL DVD in imgburn and got again miscompare errors 2.) I tried verifying CRC errors with DVDinfo pro and there were no errors on the recorded disc 3.) I tried CRC checking the image with DVD mulleter(CRC game data) and there were no errors 4.) I tried making an image with imgburn from the burn (cca7.6GB) and I did it without any problems 5.) In a moment of anger I tried rcording the image with CLONECD, and found again problems when verifying with imgburn... 6.) I wasted more than 20DL DVDs I have exhausted all my ideas and talked to a lot of people on the boards but i do not seem to understand why exactly do i have verification errors. I even doubted the verification option to be working in Vista. If I put aside the questions of quality of discs there could only be a possibility of my Pioneer 109 going bad. The drive is connected with 80pin flat cable, the burns are either done from an normal ATA 80GB disc or my new SATA 500GB, it does not matter. On the other hand how can just the DL recording functions of my pioneer start malfunctioning....? At some point I understood that some images give me trouble and some can be recorded without any problems. I am not sure if the images are extracted badly with the xbox tools(and kreon drives) but there is surely something related to process of extracting the images, since all check out fine without any CRCs but some can be burnt normally, others are difficult. Guys any idea is mostly welcome since I'll throw the damn box out ouf the window if I waste just one more DL DVD bye! logs-------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------MAXELL - no success!! ------ L-EC errors- I 23:39:26 ImgBurn Version 2.3.2.0 started! LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 First thing I'd try is verifying in another drive (the DVD-ROM, if it's a real one?!). After that, yeah I'd assume the 109 has seen better days - to be fair, it probably has anyway.
Soggoth Posted October 12, 2007 Author Posted October 12, 2007 That's a good idea, maybe rhere are really some problems with the burner and verification... What are usually the first signs of a aging DVD recorder? BTW: Can someone explain to me the L-EC error? First thing I'd try is verifying in another drive (the DVD-ROM, if it's a real one?!). It stops working in one way or another and you've already tried decent media and new firmware. BTW: Can someone explain to me the L-EC error? It's a technical thing, probably best to Google it!

Paolo72 Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 I have the SAME problem..... I try different support, different DVDRecorder, nothing to do. Very strange because until few days ago it worked perfectly with every iso xbox360.......
dontasciime Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Scan the hard drive the ISO is stored on for file system errors, try and verify the disc against the ISO from a DVD ROM drive failing that make sure you do not have anydvd installed actually just see below Reinstall XP or whatever operating system you have with the least amount of crap as possible. EG install operating system then install chipset drivers (if nvidia nforce do not install the ide drivers) just let xp pick them up and use ms standard then install gfx driver and then try with verbatim media on a dvd writer that has the latest firmware and set booktype to DVD-ROM pioneer 111 112 will do this for you and burn at 2.4x only. Maybe also check to see if your PSU is good enough at least a 500watt with at least 22A - 26A on 12v line, higher than 500w is a must nowadays on recent systems.

Hi, The iso is surely correct, i burnt it to 2 dvd's for archival purposes and sfv + rar test is ok. The disk or should i say disk are surely ok since i have tried with my normal 120 ata, my new SATA 500GB and for final my old xbox1 seagate 10GB. I am not sure this has to do with reinstallation, yeah it would probably be a very time consuming troubleshoting process, but I have had a doubt regarding vista and SATA controler, so I removed all the SATA drives and tried burning again.... no go BTW the psu is LCpower silent 420W and the proc is Athlon XP 2400 + some minor cards.... surely 420W is enough... I am running out of options besides reinstalling XP and seeing. (BTW DMA modes are also ok, i checked this) br

Soggoth Posted October 17, 2007 Author Posted October 17, 2007 (edited) ok so i uninstalled clonecd(sorry for the mistake previously its clonecd). Still the same errors, i suspect even more. I wonder if clonecd interferred with the burning process in any way? Should i try now again burning a dl dvd? See below the log of the verifying. See below the pic from filterdriver And regarding thrcopying of the iso. The iso was always extracted from the dvd's to the disk(s) never copied from one location to another, so unless there are concrete errors on the disk surace or some kind of corruption of data then i really do not wnow what is wrong. I'll try now checking the disks...and btw thanks for helping me out, this thing is driving me nuts ok.did that, ill go now try extracting the image again to the disk and compare again.... thanks for the help bye! edit:ok.checked the disks. There were some errors which were corrected on C. No problems on 500GB disk. Surely these errors should not interfere with verify process on other disk. Did the comparison again and there were still problems with iso on 500GB vs the burned disk.... 1.) Either i have some problems with communication and need to reinstall everything(damn vista). 2.) There could possibly be problems with ATA and SATA controllers in vista and my old motherborad 3.) Clonecd interferred with the burn process and the burns were not done correctly. (i cannot verify this since i do not have empty media now....will do tomorrow another test) I'll try extracting again the iso from DVD archive and compare again I'll try recording again without any other software installed(deamon tools,....) LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Miscompares at the same offset, differing by 2 every time between device and the image file.... that's almost too much to be a coincidence! Have you tried running the windows memory diagnostics program at all? (on the menu at bootup - press f8) btw, the 'clipboard' button on the filter drivers window copies all the info (to the clipboard) than you can then 'paste' into your post.
chewy Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 gear and pxhelp + vista couldn't cause the miscompare?

(on the menu at bootup - press f8) btw, the 'clipboard' button on the filter drivers window copies all the info (to the clipboard) than you can then 'paste' into your post. damn you are right. There seems to be a problem with the memory tests. I wonder if that has to do with my installation of additional ram a few months ago because of vista.... What is the right way to test this? I have 2 separate modules for 512mb and 1 for 1GB. In fact i have only 3 slots for memory on the board so ill try just using 1 slot with 1 module of 1gb inside to see.... Does this mean that if the memory has some issues the burns have been done correctly and the CRC checking is being done against actual faulty ram? It is a good thing my trusty mac still helps me when all is failed I'll report news later when i come from work Thanks guys bye!

LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 RAM is obviously being used by everything, so any operation involving it could be getting corrupted - basically you can't trust anything 100% !
Soggoth Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 Hi there, some news I checked and rechecked the memory and there were some hardware problems as vista told me, i did not even know this and was happily using my comp with occasional resets and errors since they occured so seldom(once per 2months)... Anyway back to the problem, i removed all the sticks and used the ddr400 1GB one(vista is so slow with just 1gb), I used the 266 frequency since all the other would lockup on my Asus A7v600 motherboard and after checking and rechecking there are no problems with memory now. I have tried to verify the burnt images today but i got again the mismatch errors with LBA. This is probably ok since as Lightning UK said you cannot be 100% sure about anything.... Probably the mismatched data was also written badly since the cache was being used in RAM.... I will go buy today some DL blanks and record again the images to see if there are more verification errors... I hope there should not be any since i removed Clonecd, deamontools and all the things that could possibly interfere with verification and/or burning. I'll keep posting info as i find out .... <a href="http://majorgeeks.com/download4181.html" target="_blank">http://majorgeeks.com/download4181.html</a>everest home free will give you the timing and spd of your ram from bios Memory Bus 249.99 MHz what speed my memory is running at Memory Timings 2.5-4-4-10 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS) Command Rate (CR) 1T the timings it running at SPD Memory Modules: DIMM1: Micron Tech. 256 MB PC4000 DDR SDRAM (2.5-4-4-10 @ 250 MHz) (2.0-3-3-8 @ 200 MHz) DIMM2: Micron Tech. 256 MB PC4000 DDR SDRAM (2.5-4-4-10 @ 250 MHz) (2.0-3-3-8 @ 200 MHz) it's spd specs under computer/overclock for newer motherboards you might need to use http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
chewy Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 the 2-512 sticks may have been better memory, the 1 gig stick is probably not as good best thing would be to load all sticks and post that everest information, your bios allows adequate memory settings for balancing the different ram it will require going manual with the cas timings, I had that motherboard some time ago
Soggoth Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 (edited) Its working Its working 1st burn its ok.... il try some more and confirm So it is defintely a memory problem. Thank you chewy and Lightning Now ill just try a few more burns and then try everest to see if i can adjust the timing issues thanks again, that was awesome how we managed to roubleshoot my 5 year old problem i did not even knew existed edit: PS hey guys what does padded MD5 mean? dontasciime Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 When you have all 3 in you would have to select the slowest modules speed for all 3 in your case that would be pc2700 (333) 2.5-3-3-7 for all in bios for cas and choose ddr333 or pc2700 whichever it says in bios if your cpu is fsb333 but if your cpu is 266 fsb you would be better running sync with cpu at ddr266 or pc2100, If you cpu is fsb400 then go with bottom option and ditch the 2700 module Would be better if your mobo can run the memory in 128 bit eg Dual channel mode with just 2 sticks (if your mobo has that feature) Or ditch 1 of the 512 modules the 2700 one and then you can run at pc3200 (ddr400) with cas in bios set to 3.0-3-3-8 giving you 1536 meg
