bacon Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 So I backed up my copy of Halo 3, but when I try to play it my xbox says "to play this disk, please insert it in an xbox 360 console." The burn went down no problem, the verify was clean... but the disc won't play. Ideas?
polopony Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 the 360 has to be modified I believe to play backups Google is your friend
dontasciime Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 you failed to set book type to DVD-ROM (maybe)
bacon Posted October 30, 2007 Author Posted October 30, 2007 Yeah my xbox is modded... but i did not play with my book type at all, i'll try that.
Shamus_McFartfinger Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Geez, how about helping us out a bit by posting a logfile? Otherwise we're going to be playing guessing games for a week. Help us help you. Help menu > Logs
dontasciime Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 OK update the firmware on that to latest. http://www.liteonit.com/DOWNLOADS/ODD/LH-2...re/DR20KL0N.zip Then at point where you are about to burn ISO, press the little book icon (bottom right of ImgBurn) select Liteon Tab and choose the one highlighted in picture then in new setting select DVD-ROM then click OK
bacon Posted October 30, 2007 Author Posted October 30, 2007 What does EEPROM mean? I set the book type to DVD-ROM (not EEPROM) and started the burn before I went to school today (where I'm writing this from), so I'll see what's happened when I get home. I guess it won't work cuz I set it wrong, but that's part of the learning process I suppose I also didn't have the firmware update, so thanks for the link! And I'll throw up a log file as soon as I get home too.
dontasciime Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 also make sure you use verbatim dual layer and burn them at 2.4x when you update firmware make sure no disc is inserted and that tray is closed
LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 The eeprom one just means it'll remember it between reboots - so you can set it once and then forget it.
bacon Posted October 31, 2007 Author Posted October 31, 2007 Here's the log file from my latest attempt (firmware updated, book type set). I still receive the same message from my 360, advising that I put the disc in an xbox 360 console. Oh, and the discs I'm using are Fujifilm DVD+R DL that I just had layin around. I'm gonna scoop some of the Verbatim ones tomorrow. Also, my rip is a .iso file, and some of the files I've seen used on various tutorials are .000... could that be the problem? LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 Nothing obviously wrong with the burn besides it being on cheapo DL media. Maybe your xbox just can't read those discs very well?
dontasciime Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 Recreate the disc again using xbc 2.6 so you end up with a .dvd and burn from that onto some verbs. If the writer and the hard drive share the same IDE change it or store the files (.iso/.dvd) on another hard drive not connected to same IDE the benq uses. Scan the hard drives you have for file system errors, defrag them afterwards. press the default button in ImgBurn as well.
bacon Posted October 31, 2007 Author Posted October 31, 2007 Okay so I got the Verbatims, but just a moment ago I decided to try opening my .iso in wx360, and it said my rip wasn't an xbox iso. I'm guessing that means it didn't rip properly?
dontasciime Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 guess so but I do not use that program I use xbox backup creator 2.4 2.5 2.6 which takes any of my originals and reads them in my PC drive to an ISO and .DVD file and not had one fail yet to load in 360.
bacon Posted October 31, 2007 Author Posted October 31, 2007 Hm well my latest attempt with the verbatims didn't work either, same problem as before. I downloaded xbc 2.6 but the start button stays grayed out. I keep reading about ss.bin files and ssMerger... is that a necessary step?
dontasciime Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 you have to have a certain type of DVD ROM drive and flash it with an unofficial firmware to be able to view 360 disc's TSST SH-D163A with kreon firmware (this is sata drive) or the IDE version SH-D162C (these are the 2 I have) Or TS-H943A or xbox rom drive GDR-3120L
bacon Posted November 1, 2007 Author Posted November 1, 2007 Well I tried ripping a different game (Quake 4) and it all went smoothly, no errors in the wxRipper, no problems in imgBurn, and I still get the same error as before. I can't find those other drives you recommended dontasc, so I'm stuck using wxRipper for now. I'm using the Verbatim discs and everything... still no luck. dontasciime Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 wrong layerbreak / lack of it. edit gonna check out the wxripper as not used it, how exactly are you gettting iso if you do not have a compatible drive to read 360 original ? will check wx in the meantime as that might explain what process your using Edit : lol you have to take apart a drive so you can hot swap, seems a lot of effort when there is an easier method, which country are you in as its got to be easier to buy one of the 2 TSST drives i mentioned.
dontasciime Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 layerbreak.rar extract that and copy the .dvd file to same place as your quake iso press defaults in Imgburn then right click on .dvd file and burn with Imgburn at 2.4x
bacon Posted November 2, 2007 Author Posted November 2, 2007 I live in Canada, I've got another DVD drive I use for the hotswapping, then use my Lite-On for the burning. The wxRipper method isn't so bad once you get the hang of it. So for this layerbreak file, do I need to burn it and my Quake 4 iso to the same disc? Am I going to need a layerbreak file for every game I want to back up? If so, how do I get them?
dontasciime Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 layerbreak for all 360 games is the same. The .DVD file sets it and is auto created by xbc along with the ISO you could manually edit it in notepad if you had to this is whats inside the quake one LayerBreak=1913760 Quake4.iso just replace Quake4.iso with the name of the ISO or if your only ever going to be burning xbox 360 iso images with ImgBurn If you ever went to burn a dual layer movie with the above setting it would not work unless the movies layerbreak was also 1913760 (which is highly unlikely) so only tick user specified if you only want to backup 360 games and you do not have a .DVD file http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BEST-DEAL-SAMSUNG-SH...VQQcmdZViewItem
bacon Posted November 3, 2007 Author Posted November 3, 2007 Hmmm still having the same problem as before. I'm gonna take my console to the mod store today and have them test it out. I'll order one of those drives as well as that seems the easiest course. Hopefully one or the other will finally fix it. Thanks for all the help so far too, I greatly appreciate all the input.
