Peppero01 Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 (edited) Alright... I thought the verify failing at my layer break was due to the .iso/.mds file I was using but apparently it isn't. I was burning disks just fine until two days ago and whenever imgburn attempts to verify, RIGHT at the layer break position the verify fails. I tried this with two different image files and both failed to fail verification at the layer break position. No, I'm not using crap media--I stick with Verbatim DVD+R DL's. I was just wondering if there was a way to tell if the problem is hardware related (ie: my dual layer burner) and not the image files themselves. Edited November 3, 2007 by Peppero01

BoSox2882 Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 I had a similar problem to this awhile back. I upgraded firmware and must have got a bad flash, because, it would go 50% and fail. Did you recently do a firmware upgrade?
Peppero01 Posted November 3, 2007 Author Posted November 3, 2007 (edited) Actually, this happened BEFORE the firmware update. Then, I upgraded the firmware to see if it might alleviate the problem--no go. I think the burner's crapping out on me. The fact that the error I get is a READ error at the layer break and that this occurs on two different DVD images I created probably points to the fact that the burner is dying (or at least, not as effective at writing/reading anymore). Bummer.. I really like my NEC 6650A too. Edited November 3, 2007 by Peppero01
blutach Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 You could be right about the burner - either that or the disks are bad. It seems it can't read back layer 1, but I presume it reads layer 1 on commercial DVDs fine, so this is puzzling. Perhaps it is not writing layer 1 well. Try to clean the drive and also try the disks in another drive. Regards
Peppero01 Posted November 4, 2007 Author Posted November 4, 2007 Thanks for all the help--I'm most likely going to replace the drive. I was wondering if you knew any reliable online sites where I could order a NEC 6650A? I've been scouring the 'net with no luck!
dontasciime Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 depends on which country your in but why buy the same burner again if its broken already and is it not still under warranty
