the light keeps flicking , i can only ctrl alt del to end imgburn , to get the dvd out i have to turn the power off to the burner .

i always had verbatim DVD- , i now use verbatim DVD+.

I used bitsetting to set it back to DVD+ but still get this problem.

I always used "copy to dvd" from VSO , it doesn't work anymore either.

Can this problem be caused by the original bitsetting trough imgburn ? or is it the media ?

Thanks ,Lin

It might be Issues with the USB enclosure and your samsung drive whilst using DVD+R

What happens when you use book icon to try and set DVD-ROM

does it say Uknown drive failed to report or does it allow you

Posted

All samsung drives will say 'unknown - drive doesn't report it', that's perfectly normal. It's because unlike all the other drives in the world, you cannot query the current status of samsungs.

Bitsetting isn't the issue here, that wouldn't be done until the end of the burn and this is stuck on the leadin.

Try slowing the burn speed down.

Try a new spindle of discs - incase you had a duff batch.

Try looking for a firmware update.

Consider buying a new drive.

Posted

I assumed all sammys would say unknown(the reason you added feature to ImgBurn to Auto) but the way they posted was if they were trying to booktype that way and were able to change it.

TS08 was the latest I could find for that drive.

make sure usb drive is on b4 starting ImgBurn.

Sorry donta, I just wanted to make it clear that 'unknown - drive doesn't report it!' was the ONLY thing the 'change booktype' screen would say for samsung drives and that it shouldn't be considered an error if it does/doesn't say that.

Samsungs were added to the 'auto' code because you have to set the option every single time you burn a disc - i.e. there is NO memory at all (not even for as long as the PC is powered up) - and also the drive MUST have THE disc in it that you intend to burn at the time of issuing the 'set booktype' command. If you eject the disc or whatever the 'set booktype' value/setting is lost/forgotten.

yeah I remember now you mention it. Go easy on me I am a Samsung Virgin

I still suspect maybe the enclosure or the usb port. Apart from the obvious Max write speed setting (which I missed) :D

Thank you for the replies, to start with , it seems this issue might possibly be connected to having newsleecher active , dl files ,which gives a lot of IO activity.after rebooting with no other apps active i could burn ok , starting newsleecher with the imgburn app open gives a error in Nl , i will experiment further tomorrow .

Try slowing the burn speed down.

avg speed is 9x so it is down already auto?

Try a new spindle of discs - incase you had a duff batch.

Well ,that is the point , i ordered 100 dvd+ instead of dvd- , this is how i got onto Imgburn ,so i can use bitsetting..

Try looking for a firmware update.

i have the latest firmware.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Average speed doesn't mean anything - nor does 'AUTO' if that's what you've got it on. 'AUTO' would just default to 'MAX' (read what it says in the brackets!!!!) unless you actually configure the feature - read the guides forum for a guide on doing that.

Try actually setting it to 8x.

well it seems that you've solved the problem yourself like you suspected  some programs like any DVD can affect IB also ,theres a warning when you go to write a disc about it in the IB log maybe this is another such program

Posted

That's a very odd problem you have there.

Unless the buffers are going all over the place I don't see why having newsleacher open would make any difference.

When the drive is having to perform linking (as it would due to buffer underruns), that's about the only time it could produce a burn it couldn't read back - and that's only if it's REALLY screwed.

I could be defragging my hdd and still burn from it without it producing a coaster like that.

I don't know if that model samsung drive supports scanning in cdspeed (you'd have to enable the TSSTcorp drives first via the reg key) but I'd be interested to see the results.

Strange.

You might find you get the error again and was a fluke when it worked.

You still neglected to set AUTO speed to 8x or just select 8x from drop down.

Stuck at lead in is not normal behavior unless your writer is broke or media is suspect or the write strategy for the media code is dodgy you should really have tested with a lower write speed.
