Ph4r Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 OK, so I started getting these "Finalise Disc Failed! - Reason: Program Memory Area Update Failure" Errors recently on multiple different MID's (MCC-04 and CMC MAG-M01). I read the forums here and most of the time someone comes in to blame the problem on the Discs being 'cheap.' I noticed a couple other things when this became an issue on almost every burn (these are all 16x Media, burned at 12x), when I click Cancel on the Error window it still Retries the Finalise from the beginning instead of aborting as I expected it to do. What I then end up with is a Media with two closed sessions and booktype being reported as matching the Disc Type when I have DVD-ROM set in the config. These discs are not readable in any of my stand-alone test units, only in PC DVD Burners, Readers can not see the disc either. So, I tried something... I pulled out a paperclip and manually ejected the disc while the error window was still up before proceeding. The disc was still being spun when I ejected it, but surprisingly the disc works in everything that I try it in, and has Booktype set properly! Maybe there is a timeout delay that is needed in the software if this is some sort of response that you are expecting from the drive and not receiving? Also, I think that Cancel should Cancel the recording process and not retry the finalise as that is what the other button 'Retry' is for. I am attaching some driver and Log info below if you think that there is something else to blame other than my media. =============================================== Filter Driver Load Order - ImgBurn v2.3.2.0 =============================================== Upper Device Filter: redbook Upper Class Filter: [None Found] Device: CD/DVD-ROM Device Lower Class Filter: [None Found] Lower Device Filter: imapi Filter Name: redbook File Name: C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\redbook.sys File Version: 5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158) File Description: Redbook Audio Filter Driver Product Name: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System Product Version: 5.1.2600.2180 Company Name: Microsoft Corporation Copyright: © Microsoft Corporation. LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 The 'Last Attempt' is actually slightly different to the normal one and is performed as one final attempt to get you a working disc. You have to understand that errors during the final stages are NOT supposed to happen, and if they do it's typically once in a blue moon. The 'Last Attempt' is therefore not really a big deal for most people but I can appreciate that if your drive bombs out on all discs then you may well get annoyed with it happening. You shouldn't get 2 sessions because there's never a 2nd one opened that need closing. That would be a drive / firmware issue if it's actually happening. The samsung drives seem to be the worst ones for these errors, hopefully the next firmware release will fix it. See if it makes any difference having the 'DVD+R Reserve Track' checkbox ticked in the settings (on the Write tab)
Ph4r Posted December 10, 2007 Author Posted December 10, 2007 See if it makes any difference having the 'DVD+R Reserve Track' checkbox ticked in the settings (on the Write tab) Thanks for your quick response, I have set this and had the past two burns successful. Also, I have been using this program for a while now and only recently started having that error (On the same batch of discs). I will test more next weekend. Please keep the Error MSGBOX in the back of your head, to have the different options do different things. If they do already and I do not understand it, maybe an 'Abort' Button could be added.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 As I kinda mentioned before, the 'cancel' does cancel... it takes it out of the retry loop. After that there's another bit of code for the last attempt that runs if the previous code (in the retry loop) failed. If the drive was working properly there's be no need for this bodge workaround you think you've come up with.
