elars213 Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 I have a SONY DVD RW AW-G540A 1.W0 (ATA). About two weeks I backed up a few of my movies. I had no trouble getting them set to dvd-rom, I believe I went to the Lite-on tab, and clicked "current media" and set that to dvd-rom. Now when I try again, and click change it says "Invalid code operation". I'm using +R's and current media(for DVD+RW media) is the only option that doesnt say "unknown(failed)". Of course thats a problem as I'm using +R and not +RW, but it worked before. Though the current media says +RW it has a current setting" of +R. Why does it say "failed" for every other option under "change for"?
chewy Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 according to Liggy, the nec firmware guru that drive is http://www.sonynec-optiarc.eu/en/exhibits/...s/ad-7540a.html but do yourself a favor and save that drive for essential tasks and get an external one for everyday burning those internals are hard to replace and configure properly and almost impossible to flash safely dvd burners in a laptop were a very bad idea
dontasciime Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 dvd burners in a laptop were a very bad idea Maybe but who would buy laptop without one. It also depends on which burner you get. They are a lot cheaper now to replace than they used to be but It would be better if they stuck in a drive that was as consistent as some of the external drives.
