I just got some new Taiyo Yuden 16x DVD-Rs, and I can't get them to work at all. I am very frustrated after messing with this for a whole day now. I've gone though a 50 pack of Verbatim 16x, and previously another 50 pack a Taiyo Yudens, without any serious problems before. I think the old TY discs might have been 8x, and I burned those with Nero. At some point during the Verbatims I switched to Imageburn. Anyway, I've never had a problem like this before. I really don't want to go back to Nero, but I can't get any of these new discs to burn. They all fail exactly the same way in the LeadIn. Doesn't matter if I try it at a slower speed. I've upgraded my BIOS. I've tried using different IO methods. I'm not sure if it's even writing anything as the discs still appear to be blank after I try it(thank God). I tried one of my girlfriend's Verbatim Lightscribe 16x discs this morning with no issues at all. Also, test mode goes all the way through without a hitch. It doesn't fail until I turn test mode off. I'm not sure what else I can try. I usually get this stuff on my own, but I need to ask for help here. Here's the log:

Test mode doesn't actually burn anything - hence it's not a test of if the drive can write to the disc or not.

What I'd probably do here is try changing the 'Write Type' to Incremental as some picky drives that aren't quite 100% will sometimes respond to one write type better than the other.

You could also try cleaning the drive if you've not already done so.

You get the same error with SPTI instead of Elby I/O [edit] I see you changed back to SPTI.

What about WNASPI32 or should i check your log again :D

I tried Adaptec aspi, didn't try Nero aspi. I also didn't even realize that I had the Elby error on there till I pasted it, but I figured why not, you can see it's the same error then. It was the last thing I tried before I pretty much gave up this morning and decided to ask for help. Using an air can didn't help. I'm still looking the a cleaning disc. I know there's one around here somewhere, but I'm off to work now.

It was meritline. I've never had a problem with them before, and it's a retail box too. Top quality little case they come in I might add.

Posted

I havent ehard of Meritline doing any fakes, so I'd say there genuine taiyos .

a slim ( and i mean VERY slim) chance is that you found a couple of duff discs in the spindle, but Taiyo failure rate is very low.Can you try one from the other end of the spindle/pack

We usually tell people to burn the TYG03 media at 8x , even though they are rated 16x , 8x seems to be more reliable.

The way it produces exactly the same error every time gives me hope that it is only a software conflict, but I can't figure out what it is.

Posted

The errors come from the drive so the software shouldn't even come into it.

The drive is simply reporting that it's having trouble writing to the media (hence the 'Write Error' error code) so really it should be some issue between the drive, firmware and the media itself.

mine burn ok, mine are verbatim using TYG03. I can burn them at any speed on my Pionerr 111

Well, God help me. I threw on an old version of Nero, and got the exact same error.

8:04:02 AM #25 CDR -1046 File Writer.cpp, Line 303

Illegal disc

F: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-111L

8:04:02 AM #26 Text 0 File DVDR.cpp, Line 3750

EndDAO: Last written address was 767 (2FFh)

8:04:02 AM #27 CDR -1135 File WriterStatus.cpp, Line 162

Write error

F: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-111L

If that looks slightly confusing, I've decided to try some "alternative" firmwares, with no better results btw.

I have stuck with an older version of clonecd as it loads no filters

try removing the lower filter rebooting and try another burn

or

try another burner in your computer

or

try yours in another computer
