volvofl10 Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 most likely cause is the media your using CMC Mag . VERY low quality and consistency 21:19:39 Destination Media Type: DVD+R (Disc ID: CMC MAG-E01-00) (Speeds: 4x, 6x, 8x)
Pops Posted December 24, 2007 Author Posted December 24, 2007 most likely cause is the media your using CMC Mag . VERY low quality and consistency 21:19:39 Destination Media Type: DVD+R (Disc ID: CMC MAG-E01-00) (Speeds: 4x, 6x, 8x) I am using TDK +R, I have used them for hundreds of burns with no problems until now. Will get a different media brand and try again.
chewy Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 I used to get some great TDK 8X dvd+r's, they were made in japan by Taiyo Yuden, that was 2 years ago. http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia?dvdmedia...h+or+List+Media
volvofl10 Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 I am using TDK +R, I have used them for hundreds of burns with no problems until now. Will get a different media brand and try again. Although they are TDK , TDK have used the CMC MAG dye , another example of leading brand companies using other peoples product in mabufacturing . Have a look HERE to see how many brands use the CMC ink/dye on +R media If your unsure what the ink/dye is, its the coloured layer you can see from the bottom side of the disc. Its this part that your writer ( burner) actually burns to create a series of 1's and 0's, the binary data This in turn is what your player reads and interprates into sound, so basically a low quality dye or ink will not get perfect burning and so cant be read later on after the disc is created. we have had cases of CMC ink/dye that wont read back straight after its been burned Vebratim and Taiyo yuden are probably the better manufacturers of ink/dye. In fact, verbatim actually use the Taiyo yuden dye on some of there +R media as well as the MCC dye ( MCC = Mitsubishi chemical company) , personally I'd go for the genuine Taiyo yuden as they DONT use any one elses dye/ink
chewy Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 the dye/mid code may be an important factor, but quality control is just as important or even more so look at the wide variance of pie/pif results from batch to batch of the same media, I have had verbatim and TY both that were substandard, but other batches that were near perfect TY's original tyg01/4x dvd-r's were probably some of the best blanks made, I had some ricoh dvd+r 4x, that was end of stock(2 years old when I bought it) that burned with more consistency than newer batches of ty or verbatim, I seriously doubt it was the die, but the manufacturing process Even the 4x ricoh burned better than my latest batches of verbatim, even at the same speeds(8x and 12x) A few companies claim they use TY die and equiptment(presses) to manufacture disks outside of japan(hongkong for example) these disks are pure crap, even if they were using the real dye, they can't get a good spread of it We see a wide variance from verbatim, where the dye/mid codes are the same as the original plant used in singapore, quality is all over the board. Prodisc makes some verbatims in tawain, but they have a line of their own dye/disks that can and often does exceed the mcc quality. Damn can of worms
volvofl10 Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 Id say both ink/dye and quality control go hand in hand If the ink/dye isnt applied correctly in manufacture it doesnt matter if its the best ink/dye in the world. it will still be a poor disc For that reason IMO Taiyo Yuden come out top every time . Ive only lost 7 -R's in over 800 discs. works out at less than 1% failure rate I would say burn 16x TY's ( TYG03) at 8x though. i stuck to TYGO2's discs. you MUST get Taiyos from a reputable source though, as mentioned, theres lots of fakes about
Pops Posted December 24, 2007 Author Posted December 24, 2007 Everyone, I just did a burn with Sony +R DVDs and it worked perfectly. Guess the batch of TDKs I had had some bad disks as it was a pack of 50 and i have already successfully burned about 20. Thanks for the help...
