I have been reading a lot of posts recently as i would like to make backups of my ps2 games.

I did have some datawrite 8x media but quickly found out this was bad media. The funny thing was though, it was 8x media and imgburn said the supported write speed was only 2x, and it would only write and read at 2x. This is funny, because im sure it burned faster on the first disk i ever wrote, i may be wrong.

So i read a really great thread called best meadia guide for noobs :P and it contained pretty much all media and said how good each type was, the best being tyio yuden (forgive my spelling of that :P).

I went out to get some, and found some verbatim, use some software i recently downloaded to determin it was mitsubishi chemicals verbitim which this post said was first class media :D.

So im excited about finaly being able to make the backups, stick the disc in my machine and it says that the only write speed supported is 4x although its a 16x disk. Now im no maths genius but it seems imgburn is taking all the write speeds of the disks and then timising them by 0.25 so i end up with a quarter :S.

However i tried burning anyway, but as with all the other disks they failed to verify on a 1/0 bit error i think.

Anyway i think its to do with the speed. Ive checked the FAQ and DMA is enabled. Im using a sony dvd writer from a rather expensive sony vaio i baught a few years back. Ive not had any problems until now :S

Please help!

you can grab the newest firmware here.

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters?DVDnam...p;Search=Search

your drive is 4x max speed so having 16x discs makes no difference.

personally i would buy a new drive as that one is a bit long in the tooth now :/

thanks very much for your reply :D

which one do i need to download?

LG HL-DT-ST GSA-4040B (GMA/GWA/GRA/GCA-4040B) - A101, A109, A112, A113, A114 (OEM drives) / A300, A301, A302, A303, A304 ??

Also if im going to get a new drive, what do you reccomend, im not interested in blue-ray.

Thanks v muchhh :)

i would grab A114 :)

pioneer make good drives, i'm not too sure what the latest and greatest are at the moment, maybe others can guide you on that, my drives have been very reliable for the past year and a half, so i would recommend any of them but there are newer, better drives now
