First of all, thanks for such a great program LIGHTNING UK!

Before my winter break (12/15/07), I burned two working dual layer DVD's (DVD+R DL Verbatims) with my brand new computer. After my break (yesterday), I burned another dual layer that turned out to be a coaster (bad burn).

Here is some information on the 2 working DVD's:

I burned both with IMGBURN at 4x.

At that time, my user account control (I use Windows VISTA) was turned on.

The 1st DVD (volume: CITY_OF_MEN_D1) was built from a VIDEO_TS folder.

The 2nd DVD (volume: YI_YI) was burned using an MDS file.

Information regarding the coaster:

I decided to burn this DVD with IMGBURN at 2.4x to produce a perfect burn.

The user account control was turned off at the time (it's really annoying).

The DVD (volume: GHOST_WORLD_NTSC_DVD9) was built from a VIDEO_TS folder.

I chose a "good" quality layer break (yellow star).

I saw that the average write rate was 2.3x. Doest this mean that the write speed is not high enough to produce a quality burn? In my case, would it be better to burn the DVD at 4x instead? I suspect this since the quality rating for GHOST_WORLD started low even on the first layer (around 70-85% for the first layer...then super low for the second). The quality ratings were good for the working burns throughout the discs. Please help me. I would love to find out what the problem was with this burn before burning another DVD.

For your reference, I will include a log and DVDInfoPro .png image for each burn in the order I burned the DVD's: (CITY_OF_MEN, YI_YI, then GHOST_WORLD). Thank you all for the very prompt responses in the past.

Sometimes 4x does produce a better burn than 2.4x, it all depends on what the drive's firmware is optimised for.

So go back to using 4x.

btw, in dvdinfopro, set the 'PIE Scale' / 'PIF Scale' / 'Jitter Scale' dropdown boxes to 'Auto', set the 'Show PIE' / 'Show PIF' options to 'Block', then set the 'Speed' one to 4x.

The graphs will be a lot nicer looking then.

Thanks for the lighting-fast response LIGHTNING UK! I followed your advice regarding dvdinfopro and got some unfortunately surprising results.

For the DVD volume titled YI_YI, I set the options as you advised and received a much higher quality rating of 97.30%.

I then tested GHOST_WORLD (the coaster), and got an unexpected quality rating in the 90s under a speed of 4X. I then retested GHOST_WORLD under a speed of 8X (the imgburn forum standard...I couldn't find 8X CAV in the options) and received a quality rating of 96.88%. Why were there changes in quality ratings when I reset the speed (shouldn't I get a similar reading)?

My good burns (YI_YI and CITY_OF_MEN_D1) work fine in my XBox; however, the coaster (GHOST_WORLD) skips at and/or near the layer break. Because of that, I still believe GHOST_WORLD was a bad burn. Also, I retested GHOST_WORLD at MAX speed and got results similar to my old test (less than 25%).

Any information regarding this issue would be great (this question is, of course, open to everyone who reads this). The following are the new .png files of YI_YI at 4X and GHOST_WORLD at 8X.

Forget scanning at max speed, you'll never get an accurate result like that.

It's always been said that LiteOn's should use 4x, BenQ's should use 8x. Maybe newer LiteOns might be ok at 8x but I still prefer 4x myself.

It would be nice to see jitter levels too but you need CDSpeed for that because DVDInfoPro doesn't appear to support it - or at least not the version you're running.

To be honest I can't really see a lot between the two scans. You've got a PIF spike/clump at the start of 2nd layer (where you say it's jumping on your xbox) but it's there on both and so probably doesn't mean much.
