The disc burns fine, but hangs at 99% finalization. I can even hear the drive spin down that it is done.

Does status: complete mean the disc has been finalized?

Thanks for your help!

why are you trying to burn a 2 gig file to a dual layer disk?

because all I have is the MKM 001 media for my dvd backups and some dvd -Rs for linux ISOs. My uncle asked me to make a copy of this home movie, which is only 2gigs and he wants it to last (apparently the dye used with the verbatim is supposed to be very good) and I can also set the booktype with the +R media.

In any case, I just burnt the same thing (he wanted multiple copies) to the -R media I have and it finalized the disc and verified it fine.

So the question stands: what gives?

It might be burning loads more on the disc when you do that to make it compatible. You're supposed to burn both layers on DL media, that's the whole idea of them!

The program polls the drive every second during finalisation to see if it's done or not, it must be telling the program it's not or it wouldn't be waiting there for it to finish.

As soon as it says it's done (or errors out), ImgBurn will move onto the next stage.

Feel free to update the firmware on the drive to SB03 too.

Thanks for your reply Lightning! I realize that I should be burning across both layers, but I don't know exactly what to select so that it works on all players. I guess I assumed that it would work on a single layer easiest....I guess I was wrong; I'm just doing the rest of the copies on the -R media now.

As for the SB03 firmware, thanks for this, but there have been some posts: http://club.cdfreaks.com/f105/new-s203-sb03-issues-237535/

about this new firmware making the drive wonky/burns bad. If you ask me, I should have stuck with a NEC 3520 series drive...but I didn't have any IDE ports leftover. This is now my second Samsung burner, the first one shorted on first usage and I saw the smoke/smelt it too :( It seems I am not the only one that has had to RMA my Samsung drive....cdfreaks has lots of posts about this.

Thanks again,

Jonathan

Yeah the samsungs aren't really all that reliable. My S203B has failed a few times too - it's coastered a good few DL discs during testing and I've seen a few post where other people have run into finalisation problems. I have lots of other drives to choose from though so it's no big deal for me. :D
