I'm not sure if it's a few bad disks out of the ones I bought, or if my drive is dying/dead. It's a NEC 3520A, using Verbatim DL+R. I ended up getting the LG GSA-H55LK a couple of days after my last post, and that cleared up all the problems. I hope this can help someone in the future.
